TITLE: BILINGUAL SPECIALIST
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bilingual individual (Spanish language preferred) with a preferred minimum of three
years’ experience in providing interpreter/translator services
2. Experience/background in a multicultural education setting and multilingual
communication
3. Ability to communicate effectively with teachers, administration, students, parents,
language-support agencies, and the English Learner community
4. Excellent communication (written, oral, and group facilitation) skills in Language 1 and
Language 2
5. Demonstrated ability to manage and coordinate projects
6. Associates Degree preferred but not required
REPORTS TO: Director of Student Services
JOB GOAL: To assist in implementing the district’s English Language Learner program
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 204 Day Calendar including holidays per board policy 1439, pay commensurate with the Classified Salary Schedule (Admin Assistant)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Coordination and implementation of interpretation and translation services for Jonathan
Alder Local Schools’ students, parents, administrators, and staff
2. Assist with District Enrollment Coordinator to support families in the enrollment
process
3. Serve as a district resource contact for language and culture
4. Coordinate interpreters for all events throughout the district
5. Provide translation, interpretation and cultural information support to district staff
6. Support the EL Instructional Program as needed
7. Serve as a district liaison between local agencies and community service organizations
as they relate to servicing our EL students and families
8. Meet regularly with district EL Department staff to stay informed of and collaborate on
EL department and agency information
9. Assist with the coordination of EL parental involvement in parent education workshops,
etc.
10. Assist with the recruitment of community and agency volunteers
11. Assist schools with programs to increase self-esteem and graduation rate with the EL
population
12. Perform other duties related to the position as may be requested by the immediate
supervisor
