      About the role
      Join the Commercial Solutions Team where our partners view CMHC as the catalyst for solving housing affordability challenges. In the role of Bilingual Underwriter, Multi-Unit, you will identify, understand and assess the risks associated with each multi-unit, mortgage loan insurance application and provide a recommendation for decision.

      This position has a duration of 12 months

      What You’ll Do:

      • Conduct detailed risk analysis involving program/product requirements, including but not limited to an assessment of the property, market, borrower and loan, which may involve financial, legal and professional reviews.
      • Apply sound judgment and decision-making practices that are factual and based on well-reasoned analysis to derive insurance risk recommendations and mitigation options in line with CMHC's risk appetite.
      • Exercise prudence and diligence to ensure compliance with all relevant internal policies and procedures applicable to the function.
      • Maintain quality relationships with clients to understand their needs and objectives and explore opportunities.
      • Work in a team environment and contribute to service standards and turnaround times.
      • Engage internal support functions such as legal services, policy and operations, and borrower analysis to seek clarification and concurrence in support of recommendations.


      What you should have:

      • An Undergraduate degree in a relevant field such as business, accounting, finance or commerce.
      • A minimum of three years experience in credit risk and/or financial analysis.
      • A capacity to review and understand financial statements, as well as borrower legal structures.
      • A strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as strong decision-making skills.
      • A strong oral and written communication skills in French and English as most of the work will be conducted in French.
      • The ability to establish and maintain excellent working relationships (colleagues and partners).
      • A strong ability to work efficiently and achieve great results in a mostly hybrid environment with little supervision.
      • A strong understanding of serviced client groups in Canada, including related legal documentation.


      It would be great if you also had:

      • A successful completion of a professional association designation such as Certified in Real Estate Finance (CRF), Accredited Appraiser Canadian Institute (AACI), Chartered Accountant (CA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), or Certified Property Manager (CPM).
      • A knowledge of Real estate financing and/or multi-unit underwriting.
