      The Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum (BICLM) holds the world's largest collection of comics and cartoon materials. Its current facility on Ohio State's campus opened in 2013 and includes a free museum with three exhibition galleries open six days per week. BICLM seeks a Project Registrar to join its Exhibitions and Collections teams.

      Reporting to the BICLM Museum Coordinator, the Project Registrar oversees the organization of logistics and care for upcoming traveling exhibitions, incoming loans for exhibitions at BICLM, and outgoing loans of BICLM special collections materials to other institutions. This position helps coordinate and implement registration aspects for objects on display in BICLM's permanent and temporary exhibition spaces. This position advises and adheres to best practices for collection care. Additionally, this position supports and coordinates with other Exhibitions staff for tasks including creating and managing loan tracking documents, providing updates to other museum staff on loan requests, and logistics related to traveling exhibitions.

      Responsibilities

      • Manage registration processes for exhibition loans, including creating loan agreements or exhibition contracts, loan dossiers, condition reports, and receipts .

      • Implement best practices guidelines on exhibition loans, monitoring adherence to collection care and governance.

      • Schedule and coordinate logistics-handling, packing, shipping, security, and insurance for exhibition loans .

      • Track locations and maintain checklists of objects for purposes of object preparation, installation, loan, or temporary display .

      • Track exhibition and loan history in database for museum objects.

      • Coordinate tasks including, but not limited to: traveling exhibition schedules, content delivery, ordering supplies, maintaining budgets, preparing and maintaining documentation on all exhibition loans .

      • Establish and nurture strong working relationships with museum staff, colleagues from other institutions, consultants, and vendors.

      • Work closely with staff such as curators, preparators, collection managers, and outside personnel (such as art shipping companies) in the coordination, scheduling, and monitoring of the safe movements of objects.

      This position requires occasional evening and weekend hours.       Required Qualifications:

      • Bachelor's degree in art, art history, museum studies, arts administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

      • Minimum one year relevant experience working in registration, collections management, or curatorial department in a museum, archive, or gallery setting.

      • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in museum collections management, including the handling, care, preservation, installation, and storage of art, registration methods, electronic collection records, special exhibitions and loan administration, art shipping and fine arts insurance and indemnity.

      • Excellent project management skills and attention to detail.

      • Ability to work successfully with others and to communicate complex matters to diverse audiences in an effective manner.

      • Knowledge and experience working in Microsoft Office 365 suite and collections management systems (i.e. PastPerfect, TMS Collections).

      Desired Qualifications:

      • Knowledge and experience working with PastPerfect.

      • Knowledge and experience working in AirTable and Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.

      • Self-motivated, resourceful, and flexible; creative in analyzing and solving problems.

      This is an 18-month term position. The posting range for this position is $19.52 to $24.00 per hour.
