      Position: Bio-Medical Electronic Technician I/II/III - Full-Time - Shift

      Compensation

      The estimated pay for this position is $24.4841 to $41.6427. The rates shown include a 6% premium pay (base= $-$ plus 6%). This reflects only a portion of the total compensation package for this position. Additional compensation may be available for this role through differentials, incentives, and bonuses. In addition, this position may be eligible for participation and company contributions into the Kern County Employees’ Retirement Plan.

      Distinguishing Characteristics:

      Level I:

      This is the entry level of the Bio-Medical Electronics Technician flexible classification series. Incumbents work under supervision to perform routine installation, testing and repair of a variety of patient care equipment.

      Incumbents who meet the employment standards for the next level may be promoted based on merit, subject to the recommendation of the department manager and the Hospital Chief Executive Officer and approval of the Director of Personnel.

      Level II:

      This is the journey level of the Bio-Medical Electronics Technician flexible classification series. Incumbents work under general supervision and perform more complex installation, maintenance and repair of a variety of patient care equipment.

      Level II:

      This is Bio-Medical Electronics Technician flexible classification series responsible for all complex, high risk designated medical equipment maintenance and repairs. This position will be the Subject matter expert for high risk medical equipment with the clinical staff. Incumbents work under general supervision and perform more complex installation, maintenance and repair of a variety of equipment, including high-risk patient-care equipment.

      Essential Functions:

      • Installs, checks, performs complex repairs and conducts preventive maintenance on a variety of medical electronic equipment, such as patient monitors, non-invasive blood pressure units and equipment used in central supply, such as infusion pumps.
      • Installs, checks, performs complex repairs and conducts preventive maintenance on a variety of electronic systems, such as communications and isolation power.
      • Calibrates and repairs a variety of patient care equipment, such as sphygmomanometers, pulse oximeters and aspirators.
      • Locates source of equipment malfunctions using test instruments, schematic drawings and other specifications.
      • Tests electrical circuits and components to locate ground potential and/or leakage currents that may create electrical hazards to patients or hospital personnel.
      • Performs both scheduled and emergency repairs.
      • Maintains records of work performed.

      Other Functions:

      • Performs other job-related duties as required.

      Employment Standards:

      Level I:

      Two (2) years of experience as an electronic or instrument technician where the primary duty was repairing, replacing and modifying complex analog and/or digital circuitry and solid-state equipment OR any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

      Level II:

      Three (3) years of experience as an electronic or instrument technician where the primary duty was repairing, replacing and modifying complex analog and/or digital circuitry and solid state equipment OR any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

      Level III:

      Five (5) years of experience as an electronic or instrument technician where the primary duty was repairing, replacing and modifying complex analog and/or digital circuitry and solid-state equipment in a healthcare environment OR any equivalent combination of education, training and experience in healthcare equipment.

      Either eligibility for or possession of a certificate as a bio-medical equipment technician, high risk medical equipment specialization, issued by the Association for Advancement of Medical Instrumentation preferred.

      Knowledge of :

      Principles of bio-medical equipment repair and maintenance; electronics theory, testing and repair; medical terminology, human anatomy and physiology as it relates to the operation of patient care equipment; troubleshooting techniques and methods used in preventive maintenance.

      Ability to :

      React rapidly to equipment malfunction in emergency situations; work effectively with minimal supervision; work well with a variety of professional and technical medical personnel; keep accurate work and equipment operating records; read and interpret a variety of manufacturers’ manuals.

      Supplemental:

      A background check may be required for this classification.
