      Job Description:

      This position is in the MaineDOT Environmental Office. The position supports the Senior Environmental Manager and Biologist Ill in collecting data, assessing assets, and responding to internal and external fisheries and stream crossing grant inquiries. The Biologist I will work with the environmental office team, Bureau of Planning, Results and Information Office, state and federal agencies, and municipalities regarding stream crossing data, fish passage, reporting, and grant applications. The Biologist I will assist in coordinating the Municipal Stream Crossing Upgrade Grant Program.

      The position will also have a production focus by gathering natural resource information; determining potential impacts to fisheries and wildlife including endangered and threatened species; tracking federal agency reviews; coordinating and consulting with state and federal resource agencies; ensuring MaineDOT compliance with state and federal Endangered Species Acts (ESA) during design and construction; coordinate fish passage strategies and monitoring to ensure regulatory compliance. Knowledge and experience in identifying natural resources, such as wetlands and streams. Knowledge of state and federal statutes, rules, and regulatory guidance pertaining to wetlands, streams, and other natural resources is desirable.

      To be minimally qualified for this position candidates must provide evidence of the following experience:

      A Bachelors Degree in Biology, Wildlife Management, or related field -AND- two (2) years of progressively responsible related laboratory or field research and/or management experience. Equivalent experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
