      Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

      Position Overview

      Under the general supervision of the Supervisor Clinical Engineering, or Designate, and while demonstrating a commitment to the Mission, Values, and Management Philosophy of St. Boniface Hospital, the Biomedical Engineering Technologist I, in this entry level technologist position, is responsible for assigned daily technical support activities related to equipment and devices used within clinical, allied health and/or support service departments.

      The incumbent(s) carries out assignments for repair and performance assurance and other tasks relating to: inspecting of incoming equipment; assisting in new instrument development; modifying of equipment; assisting in teaching the safe and proper use of electromedical and other related equipment; attending service courses, maintaining parts inventory; and performing other related duties.

      Experience

      • No previous experience required.

      Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

      • Grade XII or recognized equivalent.
      • Graduation from an Electronics Technology or recognized Biomedical Engineering Technology program required.

      Certification/Licensure/Registration

      • Must be certified as an Electronic Engineering Technologist by CTTAM (Certified Technicians and Technologist association of Manitoba Inc.) as soon as possible, based on CTTAM certification requirements.
      • Must have or obtain within two years of incumbency, training through recognized computer hardware and software courses.

      Qualifications and Skills

      • Knowledge of computer systems and proficiency in the use of various current and related software applications.
      • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
      • Mature professional manner.
      • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, while requiring minimal supervision.
      • Willingness and adaptability to work flexible shifts as required/requested.

      Physical Requirements

      • Ability to lift and move equipment, supplies, parts, etc., up to 34 kgs.
      • Able physically to handle long periods of standing, and ability to walk distances of ground as required.
      • Manual dexterity and normal vision skills, with or without correction are required for working with delicate instrumentation.
