- Adjusts, calibrates, lubricates, performs operational verification, tests electronic safety, and other tasks to ensure optimal performance of complex instrument systems.
- Performs periodic maintenance to ensure biomedical instrumentation systems are functioning properly, providing accurate information to clinicians, and is safe for use.
- Demonstrates a highly advanced level of electronics knowledge and troubleshooting skills.
- Learns and understands the operation and service routines for more complex and specialized medical device and laboratory systems.
- Demonstrates an advanced technical understanding of computers, clinical networks, and the use of associated test equipment.
- Understands the technology’s use model as part of the clinical workflow.
- Communicates clearly with users in patient care areas during rounds or while investigating reported malfunctions; provides impromptu technical in-services to clinical staff when needed.
- Works with department management to identify and improve key skill areas necessary for career growth.
- Participates in pre-purchase of equipment and technology evaluations.
- Analyzes serviceability, reliability, and technical aspects of equipment.
- Documents work performed as directed by the department mandated by Hospital, Joint Commission, CAP, and other regulatory agencies.
- Considerable walking, and some moderate lifting, pushing, bending required. Good hand/eye coordination for delicate electronic repairs.
- Possible exposure to ionizing radiation and chemicals, and chemical fumes. Protective clothing and safe work practices are required when appropriate.
!*!What will you be doing in this role:
The BMET (Biomedical Equipment Technician) performs complex level troubleshooting, repair and calibration of medical instrumentation; demonstrates the use of medical equipment systems to Clinical Engineering staff and medical staff; acts as a technical resource for the evaluation and interfacing of medical equipment systems; assists staff members in complex troubleshooting situations; performs preventive maintenance and calibration of medical equipment.
Experience Requirements:
One (1) plus year experience as biomedical electronics technician and familiarity with a limited but growing range of patient care and/or laboratory equipment.
Knowledge of wired and wireless networks related to the medical devices.
Demonstrates the ability to understand and use basic biomedical test equipment.
Demonstrates a basic level of electronics knowledge and troubleshooting skills.
Demonstrates an understanding of the operation and service routines for basic clinical electronic equipment.
Educational/Certificate Requirements:
Biomedical Technology Diploma from accredited program.
Associate Degree in Electronic/Biomedical Electronics or related field (preferred). Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical/Biomedical Engineering. (preferred)
C.B.E.T. Certification preferred.
