As a Trustee, your responsibilities will include reviewing our strategy and operations, to ensure they are up to the task of delivering our vision and mission; overseeing how we use our assets and resources, as well as ensuring that our financial controls and policies are fit for purpose, implemented, accessible, and reviewed regularly; establishing effective relationships with other trustees and the Executive Leadership Team, enabling both the organisation and the Board to reflect on how to improve their effectiveness, progress and learning; embodying our values and holding ourselves, the organisation and our Executive Team to account, while leading by example.
All candidates will be expected to subscribe to the Nolan Principles of Public Life: Honesty, Openness, Objectivity, Selflessness, Integrity, Accountability and Leadership.
We want to hear from people who support our aims, purpose and mission, and who share our absolute commitment to womens autonomy in reproductive rights, including the right to choose abortion.
Main duties of the job
Two of our new Trustees will bring expertise in clinical leadership, governance and risk. This could be through nursing leadership or medical leadership roles. They will have experience of operating at board-level as an executive, non-executive or trustee. The new Trustees may have worked previously in areas concerning womens health, but more importantly they will have held leadership responsibility for complex clinical governance and quality processes. BPASs clinical activity is delivered across a wide variety of settings and locations; ensuring our Clinical Governance Committee has a breadth and depth of clinical expertise is vital to our organisation, staff, service users and patients.
We also seek a Trustee with a finance background. They will be able to provide advice and scrutiny on financial reporting, risk management and internal control, as well as internal and external audit. Experience of leadership roles as an executive, non-executive or trustee is key.
Finally, we would also like to invite applications from professionals who may have either held board-level leadership roles in human resources and organisational development or have led complex, multi-site operations (perhaps in a clinical and/or regulated environment such as the NHS or charity sectors).

About the company
National Health Service (NHS) is the umbrella term for the publicly-funded healthcare systems of the United Kingdom (UK). The founding principles were that services should be comprehensive, universal and free at the point of delivery—a health service based on clinical need, not ability to pay. Each service provides a comprehensive range of health services, free at the point of use for people ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom apart from dental treatment and optical care.
