Undertake research that utilises critical thinking skills to analyse issues and to develop reasoned conclusions to apply findings

attend classroom type training in a range of locations and participate in on the job training and education

participate in a series of work placements in both office hours and shift-work environments, including weekend and night shifts

collaborate as part of a team in a dynamic border protection environment to process passengers at air and sea ports, including interacting with and questioning travellers/detainees and other persons of diverse backgrounds

use technology, equipment and vehicles, such as:

x-ray machines, electronic substance and trace detection testing equipment

tools for recording purposes and examination of cargo, mail, baggage and documents.

Interstate and/or international travel

Varied hours of work including weekends and shift work

Travelling to and from different locations by all modes of transport

Working in challenging environmental conditions, including remote areas.

A primary course of an approved COVID-19 vaccination (boosters are not required)

The Border Force Officer Recruit Training (BFORT) program aims to provide the Australian Border Force (ABF) with an operational law enforcement focussed workforce, which is trained and equipped to undertake functions across the entire border continuum. Operating under a command and control model, the mission of the ABF is to protect Australia's border and enable legitimate travel and trade. The program equips BFORT recruits with skills and knowledge to enable them to be disciplined, multi-skilled, team oriented, mobile and deployable to the operational needs of the ABF.

Stage One Assessment

The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance and an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
