      South | Trade and Travel South | Multiple Sections

      South Division is responsible for the delivery of operations and support across ABF South branches, including Travel and Trade South. It oversees Australia's gateways, including international airports and seaports while facilitating legitimate trade and travel, and undertakes operations in the prevention, deterrence and detection of regulated goods into Australia.

As an ABF Supervisor you perform an important leadership role, working under the broad direction of the Inspector (EL1) to develop and lead highly performing teams to deliver on a range of strategic and operational priorities in a highly complex, sensitive and risk-based environment. Our ideal candidate can collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders across multiple groups to achieve outcomes, be engaging, innovative and committed to providing a supportive and safe environment for all.

      • Well-developed experience leading and managing diverse teams in a challenging, complex and fast paced environment
      • Strong attention to detail, written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate collaboration, with demonstrated ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality
      • Achieves results by identifying and aligning operational tasks and engagements with organisational strategic goal
      • Understanding of relevant legislation and ABF capabilities
      • Well-developed stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to lead staff and manage relationships including providing high quality, timely, advice to stakeholders and senior executives
      • Ability to build and lead a collaborative team environment based on supportiveness, development, knowledge sharing and effective communication in line with the Australian Governments Respect@Work guidelines.

      Duties and responsibilities

      An ABF Supervisor APS 6 would generally be required to:

      • Monitor and assess border threats, ensuring the effectiveness of border controls across various operational environments
      • Provide technical guidance and expert advice to support decision-making in complex operational situations
      • Deliver accurate and specialised advice on strategic and operational matters to Regional Operations South Inspectors and contributing to the implementation of regional initiatives
      • Identify and address operational challenges, resolve critical issues, and support projects that impact strategic and operational outcomes
      • Support workforce capability by mentoring staff, fostering professional development, and contributing to team objectives
      • Implement and support ABF priorities, contribute to change initiatives, and promote more effective and efficient work practices
      • Ensure compliance with corporate and operational policies, procedures, and legislative requirements
      • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders while effectively managing competing priorities
      • Contribute to a positive and productive workplace culture by providing guidance, supporting team cohesion, and assisting in the management of performance and behavioural matters.

      Additional information

      Designated positions within the ABF require the occupant to meet all Border Force Officer essential qualifications. If successful for one of these positions, you will be required to:

      • Be operational ready (by meeting and sustaining the medical, fitness and psychometric requirements necessary for a role)
      • Be sworn (through subscribing the ABF oath or affirmation)
      • Be uniformed (unless their position requires to wear business attire)
      • Maintain essential and role-specific qualifications such as technical qualifications.

      Eligibility

      To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.

      The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance, and:

      • ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
      • Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.

      In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
