Winter/Spring Breaking News Internship

The Daily Beast is seeking talented, motivated, and dependable winter/spring reporting interns to join our award-winning newsroom as part of the Cheat Sheet/breaking news team. Open to undergraduate juniors and seniors, graduate students, and post-grads, the internship is an exciting opportunity for emerging journalists to learn how a newsroom works while gaining hands-on experience. The role is ideal for candidates who can commit to either full-time (37.5 hours/week) or part-time (20 hours/week) availability January through April.

Duties will include pitching, reporting and writing Cheat Sheet and express news articles, writing snappy articles and SEO headlines. Ideal candidates are newshounds who can work quickly, write cleanly and with some flair, and both take initiative and direction.

Qualifications

* Experience writing breaking news from a previous internship or campus publication

* A voracious news diet and appetite that covers politics, pop culture, power, and big issues in the national and global conversations

* Prior knowledge of web publishing and using a content management system

* Comfort meeting quick deadlines

This paid internship will run from January to end of April ; exact hours to be determined, with some weekend and evening shifts required. The pay range for this position is: $16.00 to $17.00 per hour. The base salary range represents the anticipated low and high end of the salary range for this position. Actual salaries may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to work location, experience, and other factors. The Daily Beast is a globally recognized publication with HQ in New York City.
