- Designs moderately complex bridge projects and performs specialized design.
- Reviews designs and detailed drawings of bridges and related structures prepared by other engineers and technicians.
- Performs moderately complex structural analysis of bridge designs
- Reviews and checks special designs and solutions for unique structural problems.
- Assists in reviewing shop drawings prepared by fabricators for bridges and related structures.
- Assists in the development of specifications for special bridge design details and projects.
- Coordinates and/or monitors assigned projects/programs/plans.
- Represents the division at various meetings.
- Makes presentations and represents TxDOT.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
- Designs complex bridge projects and performs specialized design.
- Performs complex structural analysis of bridge designs.
- Represents the division at technical meetings and public hearings at local, state, federal and/or international levels.
- Reviews shop drawings prepared by fabricators for bridges and related structures.
- Trains engineering staff.
- Designs highly complex bridge projects and performs specialized design.
- Performs highly complex structural analysis of bridge designs.
- Develops short-term and long-term goals and coordinates planning activities and resources required to meet goals.
- Coordinates and/or monitors consultant contracts related projects
- Develops specifications for special bridge design details and projects.

!*!TxDOT's Bridge Division is looking to hire a Bridge Design Engineer I, II, III, or IV based in Austin, TX that is interested in being part of the team that sets the statewide standard in bridge design. In the Bridge Division – Design Section, we oversee activities pertaining to the creation of in-house bridge, railing, and traffic structure design, and plan preparation; intelligent 3D bridge modeling; research implementation; bridge standards development; historic bridge preservation; and bridge design policy. This individual will perform bridge and structural engineering work, using current industry and TxDOT specifications, that serves the 25 Districts and the state of Texas as we advance design by implementing new innovations and technology.
This position is for one or more Transportation Engineer I, II III or IV depending on business need and the applicant’s qualifications.

Performs bridge and structural engineering work in the functional area of project development and design. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.
Transportation Engineer II
Performs complex bridge and structural engineering work in the functional area of project development and design. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
Transportation Engineer III
Performs advanced and complex bridge and structural engineering work in the functional area of project development and design. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.
Transportation Engineer IV
Performs highly advanced and complex bridge and structural engineering work in the functional area of project development and design. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.Duties:
