Job Title: General Laborer

Job Description

Work is currently local to DSM and the surrounding areas (Huxley exit bridge). This person will be working on crews that will be performing work on small bridges to large interstate projects. All roads are inactive! Willing to train on the job if the candidate shows ambition and motivation to learn. Daily tasks include cleaning up job sites, transporting concrete from the truck to the formed pad using a wheelbarrow, and assisting the foreman/supervisor with any tasks needed for jobs. Must be strong, ready to work every day, and motivated to move up in the company. Perform general duties involved in the construction of a bridge or heavy highway project.

Responsibilities

• Align forms.
• Use saws to cut expansion joints.
• Perform crack sealing.
• Check forms for proper construction.
• Set forms to desired pitch, depth, and proper alignment.
• Level and smooth concrete using rake, shovel, hand or power trowel, hand or power screed, and float.
• Mold expansion joints and edges using edging tools, jointer, and straight edge.
• Monitor weather elements for the effect on the curing of concrete.
• Operate power vibrator to compact concrete.
• Apply surface treatments.
• Tie off rebar and perform various other prep and clean-up work as needed.

Our Client offers on-the-job training. Contract employees are eligible for per diem based on the distance from their permanent address: 0 to 44 miles = $0 per day, 45 to 59 miles = $20 per day, 60-99 miles = $30 per day OR Client-provided housing, 100+ miles = $20 per day AND Client-provided housing. Mileage is calculated using a contract employee’s permanent address. This per diem policy is subject to change at any time and for any reason, at the Client’s discretion. Payment of per diem is based on days actually worked.

Work Environment

They do a lot of work for the IA DOT, which means many of their projects are federally funded, and the wages are set by the government. Therefore, pay varies based on the project.

This is a Contract position based out of Johnston, Iowa.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $32.00/hr.
