About our Department:
The Inspection Department enforces building codes and issues building permits for the City of Huntsville. Our goal is to provide protection for the health, safety, and welfare of the general public in relation to the use and occupancy of structures by enforcement of adopted Building Codes and to protect the general public from abuse by unlicensed Contractors and sub-contractors by enforcement of Contractor Licensing Laws.
Building Inspection Position Overview:
This is journey level building inspection work. Work involves conducting inspections of buildings in the course of construction, alterations, and repair to determine whether plans, quality of work, and materials conform with existing code requirements. Work is performed in the field to consult with and advise contractors, builders, and the general public, as to procedures and regulations relating to the construction process, and to insure conformity with regulations, code compliance, and public safety.
Qualifications and Necessary Special Requirements:
High school diploma from a school accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or GED certificate issued by the appropriate state agency and experience in building construction or inspection work; or any combination of education, training and experience.
Valid driver's license and good driving record
Must hold a license as one of the following: General Contractor, Residential Home Builder, or be currently certified as a Building Inspector by the ICC
