      Iowa City Community School District Building Substitute Teacher QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Iowa Teaching Certificate, Substitute License or Substitute Authorization Ability to be available to substitute on a regular basis with little, to no advanced Regular access to phone or Strong communication Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District may find appropriate and acceptable. REPORTS TO: Substitute Services Specialist and/or Building Principal JOB GOALS: To motivate each student to acquire the knowledge, skills and principles of the day’s lesson. To assist in achieving no loss in student instruction time in an effort to enhance student learning, promote the overall efficiency of the school system, and maximize the educational opportunities available to each child. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide coverage for classroom teachers in various grade levels and subjects throughout the building as Teach the content and skills in the daily lesson plans to pupils, utilizing appropriate learning activities and Encourage students to think independently and to express original Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment. Communicate with classroom teachers regarding student Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities as directed by lesson plans and building supervisors. Identify student needs and cooperate with other staff members in helping students solve learning, attitude and health problems. Establish clear objectives for lessons and communicate those objectives to the Attend staff meetings and in-service activities as Maintain professional competence through professional growth Maintain accurate, complete records of student attendance and progress as Keeps appropriate records of the day’s events for the classroom teachers Assume additional responsibilities and duties as assigned by the TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Letter of assignment position. Building Substitute positions are considered classified employees of the Iowa City Community School District. Work eight hours each day in assigned building (or in other buildings on an as needed basis) in various assignments/buildings throughout the district. Building subs are benefit eligible. EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated periodically by the Substitute Services Specialist. HR DEPT. 7/18/2022 Building Sub Benefits 2022-2023 Assignment Length 177 days Letter of Assignment (full school year, follow student calendar plus 2 additional days) Paid hourly 8:15-4:15 Insurances Medical - Full single health insurance. Dental – Dental insurance available at employee’s expense. Enrollment option only at date of hire. Disability - Each full time employee shall be covered by a long-term disability insurance providing for income protection to age 65. Benefits shall include 70% of covered monthly compensation to a maximum benefit of $1,000 less any payments for that month for which the employee is eligible under the Federal Social Security Act, Worker’s Compensation Act, or other similar legislation or under any other group plan providing benefits for loss of time from employment. Covered monthly compensation is defined as one-twelfth of annual salary up to the maximum allowable. Benefits shall be paid consistent with the provisions of the policy selected. Life - A group term life insurance policy shall be provided to each employee in the amount equal to the nearest $1,000 of annual salary to a maximum of $25,000 until termination of employment for employees working 6 or more hours per day. IPERS (Iowa Public Employees Retirement System) A percentage of each employee’s salary is set aside for a state-mandated retirement program. The employee may withdraw this money upon leaving public employment or use it to supplement retirement income. Employee contribution = 6.29% and Employer contribution = 9.44% Flexible Benefit Reduction Plan The district will provide a salary reduction plan, under which it will deduct from employees’ monthly wages amounts specified by employees to be applied to: - Employees’ portion of health and major medical insurance premiums - Unreimbursed medical expenses - Employees’ dependent care expenses Paid Leave Sick Leave - 10 days the first year, 11 days the second year, 12 days the third year, etc. up to 15 days per year the sixth and subsequent years (maximum accumulation of 135 days, excluding current contract). Sick leave must only be used for medical appointments or illness. Miscellaneous Information Employees shall be paid twice per month, the 15th, and the last business day of the month. Employees shall receive their checks through direct deposit. Hrly Pay is based on time entered in the time clock system and Frontline. In accordance with Board Policies 409 and 411-414, employees are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner and attend work daily. Unless an emergency arises, sick leave should be entered prior to beginning of work day, unpaid leave must be approved by the supervisor in advance and must be submitted for approval at least three work days prior to the requested leave dates. Unpaid leave needs to be entered in Frontline as “leave without pay”. Employees that take excessive leave and/or do not enter leave correctly and timely will be subject to discipline which could include termination. The District reserves the right to deny the use of leave. This experience will not count toward converting an Initial Teaching License to a Standard License.
