      Building Surveyor - Home Claims

      The Role:

Sedgwick Building Consultancy Division is part of Sedgwick International. You will be working within the local Sedgwick building consultancy division team which includes APC candidates, MRICS surveyors and Chartered Engineers.

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Building Surveyor to join our highly successful team in Birmingham.

You will be involved in and lead numerous projects to reinstate commercial and domestic properties following damage by an insured peril. Projects typically range in value from £20k to £1m. Dependent on the size and complexity of each project you may work alone or lead a small project team.

Undertaking a wide range of surveying activities ranging from technical reporting, defects diagnosis, preparing Schedule of Works, contract administration and project management, you'll be able to empathise with clients who may have suffered a loss but then able to turn around professional reporting within tight timescales. An ability to manage a workload and make reasoned decisions under pressure is a must.

Sedgwick offers excellent opportunities to develop as a professional both within the UK and internationally. Whether it be flooding in any area of the UK, or responding to Hurricanes in the Caribbean, we will be able to offer a different portfolio of work than you may see in other companies.

You'll work very closely with colleagues in our local loss adjusting teams to build relationships. An ability to bring non-insurance clients would be valued. This is an exciting opportunity for a talented Building Surveyor looking to progress their career and build a reputation within a large and growing company.

      You will have/will be:

      • Preferably MRICS / MCIOB Chartered Building Surveyor

      • As a minimum actively working towards Chartered status

      • A building related Degree

      • Full UK driving licence essential

      • Company car/car allowance

      • Extensive knowledge of building construction and relevant legislation

      • Insurance knowledge is desirable but not essential.

      • Able to plan projects to ensure robust control of time, cost and quality

      • Experience in schedule preparation and contract administration of building projects

      • Highly responsible and decisive, but also a team player

      • Able to proactively manage your own caseload

      • I.T. literate, particularly with MS Word and Excel

      • Able to appreciate the importance of delivering outstanding customer service

The ability to arrive on site immediately following a significant building loss and quickly earn the confidence and trust of the insurance policy holder is essential to the success of this role. Composure under pressure, excellent communications skills and empathy are therefore key attributes.

What will you get for this role?

      • Competitive salary depending on skills, experience and qualifications

      • Company car/Car Allowance

      • Flexible working for most vacancies

      • Healthcare scheme

      • A Self Invested Personal Pension Scheme

      • Holiday allowance of 25 days plus bank holidays

      • Discounts on various products and services

      • Employee assistance programme for employee wellbeing

      • Life assurance

      • Group Income Protection
