- Understand external consultants design intent and calculations within the building services field (MEP and associated disciplines like sprinklers, trusses, alarm systems etc.).
- Translate design intent into a 3D model within Revit.
- Coordinate the 3D-model with other disciplines both during the architectural stage and during the workshop drawing stage.
- Provide advice and guidance to the architecture team on how to best establish a design for manufacturing and assembly.
- Follow version control and release protocols to ensure quality of issued drawings.
- Coordinate with manufacturing and construction in the US to create a buildable design.
- Cooperate within the Building Systems team on a daily basis to always keep on pace with deliverables.
- Contribute to and help maintain a system of quality to ensure that the standard of building systems output continuously improves to meet the needs of the business, manufacturing and construction teams.
- Build a 3D-model for building services with members of the Building Systems team and the Studio team.
- Act as responsible for nominated MEP disciplines during the course of a project.
- Issue drawings on sheets from the 3D-model according to the shop drawing release schedule.
- Understand external consultants’ drawings and calculations and translate them into a buildable design.
- Provide basis-of-design sketches for outside consultants to perform calculations (to identify location of runs in building layout).
- Issue and answer RFIs using Procore.
- Download and upload Revit models to BIM360.
- Follow the instructions from Design Operations team that sets up the Revit model framework.
- Coordinate work with the MEP-team and the structural team within Building Systems.
- Report on problems and issues as quickly as possible to address in time for production.
- Participate in departmental meetings.
- Coordinate calculations of roof trusses with outside expertise as needed.
- Provide set package and site layout drawings as required for site coordination and construction.
- Decide on best arrangement for building services to run inside modules by weighing input from architecture, manufacturing, and construction.
- Ensure that code compliance communicated through consultant calculations and schedules is upheld.
- Experience in electrical drafting preferably for modular construction.
- 3+ years’ experience in modular construction.
- Knowledge of US building code (IBC and regional codes) within the building services area.
- Skilled in understanding and translating consultant calculations and sketches into drawings.
- Skilled in drawing creation, 2D or 3D.
- Good interpersonal skills given the coordinating nature of the position.
- Skilled in MS Office.
- Systematic problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to continuously improve both personal and team performance over time.
- Ability to work onsite at the VBC Berwick factory 2-3 days per week.
- Reports to Building Systems Manager for MEP and then to Director of Building Systems in Ireland.
- Part of an MEP team with 5 other members, and 4 additional in adjacent teams.
- Remote work possible from home 2-3 days per week (normal workday 8am-5pm with a total of 1hr break).

Job Description Summary
As Systems Designer, you will work as a member of the global VBC Building Systems team with 27 members across 6 locations. The team serves VBC’s three modular factories with workshop drawings, bills-of-materials, and machine files for automated equipment. Building Systems coordinates upstream with VBC Studio (architectural), externally with consultants of all disciplines, with project management, and downstream with manufacturing and construction site. Your job is to ensure that drawings and specifications issued to the factories are compliant with manufacturing methods, presented to preserve design intent and liability, and provides traceable clarity to stakeholders.
