Transportation - Conducts 15-mninute pre-trip inspection of bus, including, but not limited to, tires, visual check of engine and belts, lights, seats, emergency exits, and brakes.
- Fuels bus daily or as needed. Drives bus from assigned parking spot in bus lot to gas pump.
- Washes bus at least weekly by driving through bus wash or hand washing using a long-handed brush and hose.
- adjusts interior and exterior mirrors or asks for mechanic’s assistance.
- Drives automatic transmission bus along prescribed route to transport students to and from school.
- Depending on model of bus, pushed buttons or uses lever to operate flashers while students get on and off of bus.
- Depending on model of bus, steps on emergency brake pedal or pushes air brake button before students load or unload bus, then pulls lever or depresses air brake button to release brake.
- Depending on model of bus, holds down a switch or operates lever to swing bus door open and closed.
- Monitors students as they enter, ride and leave bus to ensure safety of all parties.
- Sweeps bus interior daily.
- May install tire chains if needed for inclement weather.
- May operate hydraulic lift for wheelchair access if driving a bus.
- May load student and secure wheelchair using ratcheting tie downs and hooks that lock into wheel and fasten seatbelt for student.
- May open emergency windows, doors, and roof hatches in the event of an emergency.
- Valid Washington State driver's license required before training.
- Must obtain a Commercial Driver's License Permit.
- Completion of 40 to 60 hours of paid bus driver training.
- Ability to pass a Federal DOT Medical Evaluation.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions including mapping.
- Ability to keep records and maintain order.
- Strong public relations skills.
- Must be 25 years of age or Older (to be insured to drive a LWSD bus) Lake Washington School District is accepting applications for this position in an on-going basis for the 2023-2024 School Year. Interviews will be scheduled and positions filled from the applicant pool for openings as they occur. If you are selected for an interview you will be contacted by the Transportation Department.

TRAINING WILL OCCUR DURING SUMMER MONTHS IN PREPARATION FOR THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR.
Base rate: $35.04 per hour.
Part-time (180 days) position; Classified staff working at least 20 hours per week are eligible for benefits.
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
