Location - Offices in Dundee, Aberdeen, Stirling, Perth, Edinburgh , Glasgow

      Field based – Scotland Wide

Join the Scottish Water family and flourish

Most people don’t think too much about how clean water reaches their taps. Or what happens to their wastewater.

But Scottish Water does. In fact, it’s all we think about.

That, and hiring our next modern apprentice superstar.

      A real alternative to university

Work-based learning means hands-on experience, tailored to suit you. On our Business Administration programme you’ll learn skills you can only get on the job. And most importantly, you’ll be working towards a Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) which should be achievable over the programme’s 2 years.

You may even want to stay on and pursue a career with us based in the field. (That, by the way, is a very real option.)

      What will you be doing?

You will receive support and development to work towards and complete a Business Administration Modern Apprenticeship.

You will learn all aspects of the connection journey in the Development Operation area of our business, including field work. You will be trained to assist all our different types of customers in obtaining a waste and or water connection to our network. Whether that be answering general enquiries by phone or email, assessing drawings against technical standards, reviewing photos of supply pipes, issuing workpacks to delivery partners or going on site to carry out inspections of partially or completed asset types. No 2 days will be the same.

      What’s in it for you?

      Opportunity

We want you to challenge and stretch yourself – and we’re here to help you make the most of your skills and abilities with first-class training, support, and a huge investment in your development.

      Teamwork

The best bit? You’ll be working as part of a team championing your success. They’re here to help develop your skills, all the way to a nationally recognised qualification.

      Confidence

We want you to feel confident and to share your ideas, because they help us work better. We respect and value peoples’ differences. It’s why people love working here.

      What you’ll bring
We’re keen to meet applicants from all backgrounds with five National 4 or 5 Qualifications (English, Maths and Science are good, but not a dealbreaker) It would also be great if you have a good understanding of Microsoft office (Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint) and bring a commitment to learning and developing new skills.

A full UK driving licence (or learning, fast!) would be advantageous since a significant amount of time will be spent in the field inspecting small and large scale developments and eventually a van may be provided.

Complete your application for our 2024 Apprentice Programme, by 23.59 on the 5th April.

A few final things worth knowing…

Research shows that some people avoid applying for jobs unless they can meet every single criteria. If you’re interested in this job, but don’t tick all the boxes, apply anyway! We hardly ever hire people who can do every part of a job from Day One. Everyone has a learning curve. So don’t rule yourself out!

Let us know if there are any changes we can make to our recruitment process to help you perform at your best. Lots of our people have disabilities or neurodiverse conditions (including some of our recruiters!). We're also aware that some people might be experiencing temporary challenges because of life events, like menopause. We’re very used to making adjustments, so please don’t be afraid to ask.

As part of our commitment to developing a flourishing Scotland, it’s important that all our employees are Scottish taxpayers. If you join us, your home address will need to be in Scotland. If you don’t already live here, you'll need to commit to moving here within your first three months.

Finally (finally!), candidates who haven’t submitted an application in the last 12 months will have their records removed from our recruitment database. You won’t need to do anything. Your data will be automatically deleted.
