OVERVIEW:

The Children's Museum of Indianapolis data team leverages data to enhance departmental effectiveness by delivering deeper insights into existing data and supporting informed decision-making processes. A key objective is to provide actionable, data-driven customer insights that align with organizational goals, including fostering long-term constituent relationships and driving growth in museum visitation, membership, and related revenue streams. The intern will learn the ins and outs of working with a range of museum departments, explore varied types of data, and learn business processes. An ideal candidate possesses a strong willingness to learn, is self-motivated, and is well into a program in data science, database design, or a related field of study. The internship culminates in a presentation of the intern’s work to impacted leaders at the museum.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Collaborate with museum staff to discuss reporting needs and determine key metrics.
• Perform research using a range of data science and business analytics tools.
• Provide data analysis support and insight support for various business analysis projects.
• Query and manage databases to ensure data accuracy and accessibility.
• Build professional-quality visualizations and dashboards that effectively communicate insights.
• Assist with model building and associated data preparation.
• Present research results to decision-makers in a clear, concise manner.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be available to work at least 20 hours per week on a flexible weekday schedule.
• Currently enrolled in a college or university program, pursuing coursework in Data Science, Data Analytics, Business Analytics, Marketing Analytics, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
• A basic understanding of modern data analytics and business intelligence tools, services, and emerging technologies (e.g., Machine Learning and AI) is preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with SQL is a plus.
• Familiarity with coding in R or Python.
• Experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, or similar) is preferred.
• Strong skills in critical thinking, communication, and mathematics.
