      Summary of Job Duties:

      The Business Systems Specialist will be part of a dynamic team contributing to critical advancements in birth defects research and surveillance. In collaboration with the section faculty and staff, the Specialist will develop and implement advanced data management of integrated applications with clinical and research relational databases for the Arkansas Center for Birth Defects Research. The Specialist will also take a leadership role in applying creativity in adopting proven technologies, platforms, and architectures to enhance current systems and develop new systems.


      Qualifications:

      Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field, plus five (5) years of experience managing large relational databases (IT-related, database, software implementation) required.

      Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

      • Knowledge of current computer languages and their respective programming techniques

      • Proficient with linkage/merging large health/clinical databases

      • Ability to think through a logical sequence of necessary events, including in terms of computer language, to produce a desired end product

      • Ability to devise or modify procedures to solve complex problems

      • Positive attitude, self-motivated, independent, detail-oriented, responsible team player, and exhibits exceptional organizational and relationship management skills

      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

      • Ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities

      • Ability to work with multiple researchers, faculty. and staff from diverse backgrounds in a collegial and professional manner

      Preferred Qualifications:

      Five (5) years of experience with Microsoft SQL Management Tool, Tableau, and/or Visual Basic.


      Additional Information:

      Responsibilities:

      • Apply creativity in adopting proven technologies, platforms, and architectures to enhance current systems and develop new systems.

      • Perform application maintenance, upgrades, and troubleshooting as needed.

      • Perform all of the database development and management skills of database build, data cleaning and quality, data merging, data linkage, reporting, and database analysis.

      • Implement quality control measures to ensure protocol compliance.

      • Establish and maintain standard development, testing, and documentation protocols.

      • Establish and maintain a standard protocol for maintaining the security, privacy, and integrity of data.

      • Facilitate training of end-users with appropriate documentation.

      • Keep apprised of data design/development techniques and methodologies.

      • Perform basic statistical calculations to analyze various datasets utilizing standard statistical methodologies. Access information held in databases to respond to special requests for data or statistical reports from internal and external constituents, including designing, programming, and generating customized reports.

      • Clean and manage data, implement quality control measures to ensure protocol compliance, perform inquiries, and provide custom reports.

      • Anticipate and recommend application enhancements as appropriate.

      • Perform basic statistical calculations to analyze various datasets utilizing standard statistical methodologies.

      • Provide leadership with other institutions and agencies (e.g., ACH SDG, CDC or other external collaborators and/or funding agencies) as the programming liaison regarding implementation, support, and data sharing of externally supplied study-specific databases or data using secured data networks, web-based systems, etc.

      • Maintain a log of access rights for approved users (active and inactive). Synchronize data with funding agencies on a routine basis.

      • Attend Center and study-related meetings.

      • Perform other duties as assigned.
