    • High School Diploma required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred (holders of a High School Diploma must be willing to complete a Credential of Competency within probationary period).
    • C-print certification* (*Consideration will be made to an individual with strong typing skills who is interested in acquiring C-print certification through the NTID C-Print Captionist training. MCIU will be reimburse training expenses upon the successful completion of the course.     • Must appropriately handle confidential information, enjoy working with students with disabilities, establish and maintain a rapport with students, and able to understand the needs and feelings of students.
    • Strong Technology skills, including extensive use of Microsoft applications and other software.
    • Ability to work as a member of a team, be courteous and able to deal effectively with people, able to work in an environment with frequent interruptions.
    • Ability to follow written and verbal directions, ability to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision, ability to read, write, and do simple computation.
    • Ability to work independently, make work-related decisions, and exercise good judgement with student interaction.
    • Original certificates of clearance from the State Police, Child Abuse Registry, and PDE FBI.
    • Utilize computer assisted technology to provide real-time access to classroom information through "meaning for meaning" captioning of lectures, video and classroom discussions.
    • Collaborate actively with the assigned teacher of the deaf to tailor notes to student language and academic levels
    • Provide edited notes to students, classroom and itinerant teachers to facilitate academic engagement
    • Demonstrate best practices in notetaking to produce effective notes
    • Preview and review academic information to develop and customize captionist’s abbreviation dictionary
    • Deploy professional development strategies to actively increase typing speed
    • Assist with additional responsibilities as assigned by the classroom teacher.
    • Present as a positive image of the Intermediate Unit, its programs and services.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor
    • Starting at $20.71/hour for High School Diploma/Associate's Degree
    • Starting at $21.76/hour for Bachelor's Degree
    • $1.00/hour stipend for valid PA Teaching Certification
    • Starting at $32.55/hour (for those with the C-print certification through the NTID C-Print Captionist training)

    • A vacancy exsists for a C-Print Captionist/Teacher Assistant position to work within the Office of Student Services at the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit. This full-time position serves school age students in our Hearing Support program.

      Location:

      Work Schedule:
      Monday - Friday 7.5 hour days, 10 months (194 days/year)

      Hourly Rate:
      • Starting at $20.71/hour for High School Diploma/Associate's Degree
      • Starting at $21.76/hour for Bachelor's Degree
      • $1.00/hour stipend for valid PA Teaching Certification
      • Starting at $32.55/hour (for those with the C-print certification through the NTID C-Print Captionist training)
