      The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure plans transportation networks, provides transportation services and infrastructure, develops and implements transportation policies, and administers many related acts and regulations. The Ministry strives to build and maintain a safe and reliable multi-modal transportation system and provide affordable, efficient and accessible transportation options for all British Columbians.

      The Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement (CVSE) program regulates and manages commercial vehicle activities on the provincial highway network and aligns requirements with neighbouring provinces to ensure the safe and efficient movement of goods within BC and beyond. CVSE directs programs and provides information that affects commercial and private vehicle safety, in accordance with Provincial government regulations and policy, as well as national and international standards.

      The Passenger Transportation Enforcement Officer (PTEO) is a British Columbia Peace Officer and enforces compliance with the Passenger Transportation Act, Regulations and standards that govern the commercial passenger transportation industry and protects the safety of passenger transportation users. The PTEO will issue warnings and prosecution notices, and may delay or detain vehicles and/or drivers.

      Job Requirements:

      • Secondary school graduation or equivalent
      • Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent in good standing, with no more than nine (9) points in the last five (5) year period.
      • Experience establishing, building and maintaining relationships with diverse partners and stakeholders.
      • Experience dealing with urgent and sensitive information which may have an impact on partners and stakeholders.
      • Experience preparing reports and formal documentation.


      Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:

      • Experience interpreting and applying acts and regulations.
      • Experience regarding Road Transportation or Law Enforcement.
      • Experience with Auditing and Compliance.
      • Applicants who speak fluent Mandarin.


      TRAINING REQUIREMENTS: Due to the specific nature of the work, the following must be held and maintained (Provided by Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement Branch upon Employment):

      • Provincial Peace Officer Status.
      • Emergency Vehicle Operators Course.
      • Total Control Driving Course.
      • Commercial Transport Inspector Mobile Training Course.
      • Justice Institute of BC Investigative and Enforcement Skills Certificate Program core courses.


      Please note: to be considered for this position, you must be willing and able to provide your BC commercial driver’s abstract and personal driver’s abstract, or other jurisdiction equivalent, upon request. Your Personal Driving Record and Commercial Driving Record (N-Print) history must be recent (within the last five (5) years) and the abstract must be dated within 30 days of it being requested. To be eligible, your record must have:

      • No driving suspensions.
      • No more than nine (9) points total.
      • No more than eight (8) accumulative offences, including zero-point offences.
