      Description

      What do Camp Counselors do?

      This position supports the work of the Channel Islands YMCA, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Camp Counselor is responsible for of a group of children ages 3-14 years of age. Responsibilities with this position include but are not limited to: supervision of children, program development, staff development, general maintenance, safety, and parent involvement and communication.

      • Plan and implement a childcare program in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the Channel Islands YMCA.
      • Day Camp Counselors are responsible for a group of youth age 3-14 in a Camp environment.
      • Make commitment to delivering a quality experience for all program participants.
      • Take initiative by providing better ways to serve and involve members in the program community; strive to provide service that will exceed expectations.
      • Demonstrate knowledge of program by answering members questions.
      • Respond to concerns and complaints in a way that makes each person feel valued, initiates action for prompt resolution.
      • Positively ID parents before releasing children (picture ID necessary until you can personally identify them)
      • Adapt, facilitate and evaluate age-appropriate activities with and for the program participants
      • Involve and empower youth.
      • Understand and apply basic youth and adolescent development principles.
      • Maintain adequate stock of necessary supplies, informing Supervisor of additional supplies as necessary.
      • Maintain proper control of program participants using constructive methods, keeping in mind each childs individual needs.
      • Understand and support the mission of the YMCA.
      • Demonstrate the attributes and qualities of a positive role model using character development and asset building.
      • Respect and honor cultural and human diversity.

      Qualifications


      • Must be at least 18 years old.
      • Previous experience working with children of all ages preferred
      • CPR and First Aid certification within 30 days of hire- can be provided by the YMCA if needed
      • High School Diploma or equivalent
