Job summary
The post holder will join an established team to care for patients undergoing treatment for ocular cancers. The Ocular Oncology Service in Moorfields Eye Hospital is one of three centres in England that provide specialist treatment for patients with these rare cancers. In patient care is provided both at Moorfields Eye Hospital and St Bart's (1 list per month).
The post holder in collaboration with the Ocular Oncology CNS's, medical and clinic staff, MDT coordinator and the multi-disciplinary team is responsible for the delivery of safe, effective care leading to an excellent experience for patients and carers.
We have an exciting part-time (0.60 WTE or 22.5 hours/week) Band 7 Cancer Nurse Specialist opportunity at Moorfields Eye Hospital to support our Ocular Oncology Service.
You will be an independent nurse practitioner within the MDT to provide nurse led patient care and act as a nursing lead within the Ocular Oncology Service.
This post will be ideal for you if you'd like a part-time cancer nurse specialist career at Moorfields or if you are already a part-time Band 7 ophthalmic specialist nurse who would like to take on this challenge as part of your career development within Oncology service. The five Patient Experience Principles will underpin how we will consistently develop and deliver a compassionate and excellent quality of care to our patients in ocular oncology.
Main duties of the job
Practice autonomously with a high level of accountability at an advanced clinical level in the direct delivery of high quality care, making critical clinical decisions based on advanced clinical skills assessment.
With the support from the Head of nursing, Nurse Consultant, Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANP's) and the Medical team.
Works in partnership with individuals, families and carers, using a range of assessment methods as appropriate (e.g. history-taking, holistic assessment, identifying risk factors, mental health assessments, requesting, undertaking and/or interpreting diagnostic tests and conducting health needs assessments).
Collaborate with the multi-professional team to establish diagnosis and monitor disease progression in patients with ophthalmic conditions.
Challenge practice so that the best and most appropriate treatment is given to the patient; maintaining and monitoring high standards of care, recognising and responding proactively to patients' changing clinical needs.
Work autonomously, managing a group of patients to deliver high quality skilled, evidence based and patient centered care supported by departmental Standard Operating Procedures, policies and guidelines.
