      Overview
      The Dallas City Attorney’s Office is seeking an energetic and highly organized individual with experience in the criminal justice or social work field to serve as a social services coordinator. The social services coordinator is responsible for providing comprehensive case management for participants in the community courts, a unique program that provides restoration to the community where the crime is committed, seeks to rehabilitate individuals, and deters further criminal action.

      The duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: conducting a risk-needs assessment on all participants of the court; collecting and maintaining participant case files, assessment information, referrals, and other related materials; providing short-term comprehensive case management to participants by following up with participants on a regular basis to formally and informally reassess their needs, coordinate services, and make appropriate referrals; assisting participants with life skills such as time management, job search/placement, and budgeting; identifying new partnerships with social service agencies that can address the needs of the participants; attending community meetings; and coordinating with other internal and external staff and programs to maximize opportunities for participants. Other duties may be assigned.

      This position requires a bachelor’s degree in social work, behavioral sciences, or related fields or equivalent experience working in social services, probation, or related fields. The candidate needs to be proficient in Office Suite products and must possess a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation. This position sometimes requires working nights and weekends.

      Salary is commensurate with experience. The city's comprehensive benefits package comes with the position. This position is exempt from the provisions applicable to civil service, pursuant to Chapter XVI, Section 9 of the Dallas City Charter.       1. Leads, monitors, and evaluates the work of subordinate caseworkers by re viewing client treatment plans and client progress through the social service program to ensure that clients receive appropriate services and interventions.
      2. Performs initial assessments of clients to verify eligibility for participation in the programs, develop a treatment plan for the client, or to assign cases to the appropriate counselor.
      3. Conducts and performs group skills training for clients and their families to teach coping and other life skills to enable clients and families to effectively manage problems.
      4. Counsels and advises clients and families by developing a client treatment plan to ensure that individuals receive appropriate services and interventions.
      5. Maintains contacts with various social service agencies and awareness of the scope of services available; makes client referrals for additional social services.
      6. Evaluates program effectiveness by conducting follow-up interviews and surveys; documents utilization of services to recommend changes in service delivery policy or procedures that will best meet client needs.
      7. Provides continued training to subordinate caseworkers on treatment and skills training methods to enhance the counseling skills of subordinate caseworkers.
      8. Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.
      Experience
      3 years in counseling services, social services, or other community service.

      Bachelor's Degree in Social Services, Counseling, or other related fieldKnowledge and Skills
      1. Thorough knowledge of principle s and practices of social work and casework methods.
      2. Knowledge of social service resources in the community.
      3. Knowledge of social and health issues and the ability to apply knowledge to the solution of diverse problems.
      4. Ability to effectively interact with clients from various socioeconomic backgrounds.
      5. Ability to make verbal presentations to small or large groups.
      6. Ability to work closely with various agencies (law enforcement, schools, employers, health, welfare).
      7. Communica ting effectively verbally and in writing.
      8. Ability to identify client problems and plan for intervention.
      9. May require knowledge of alcohol and drug abuse intervention and the 12 Step Program.
      10. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
