- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering in the biomedical field strongly preferred.
- Successful completion of a full Cardiac Device Educational Program (i.e., PrepMD) or, one year’s experience in Electrophysiology is strongly preferred
- Current experience reviewing and managing remote device transmissions is strongly preferred .
- Certification by IHBRE within two years of employment is strongly preferred and encouraged but not mandatory
- Current BLS certification required.
- ACLS certification is required within the first year of employment
- Excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, visitors, and hospital personnel.
- The ability to work as a team member, promoting a caring and collegial attitude toward fellow employees.
- The ability to organize and prioritize work.
- Demonstration of independent judgment within the scope of this position.
- Well-developed organizational skills in order to determine the needs of patients.
- The ability to stand, walk, and bend for an extended period of time
- Demonstration of flexibility and willingness to adapt to diverse role as member of the patient care team.
- Demonstrated proficiency in English verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to read, write, perform simple arithmetic calculations in English required.
- Ability to communicate effectively using voice mail, e-mail, fax machine, telephone, etc.

Job Summary
The Cardiac Device Center is a dedicated ambulatory clinic providing outpatient, long-term, regularly scheduled, and remote management of patients with cardiac implantable electrical devices (CIEDs).
Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager and Medical Director, the Cardiac Device Technician will assist in the management of all patients with CIEDs. Primarily the daily review and documentation of remote pacemaker, ICD, and implantable loop recorder (ILR) transmissions and alerts. This ambulatory setting requires the Device Technologist to work in a patient centric environment with a team approach to delivery of care. The Device Technologist must possess strong written and verbal communication skills in order to maximize the clinical relationship with the physician providers, independent licensed providers (NP/PA), clinical administrative staff, and other device center staff.
Responsibilities include;
- Daily review and documentation of remote transmissions.
- Appropriate communication of findings requiring further attention with responsible MD or NP/PA.
- Enrollment, education, scheduling, and maintenance of patients in various remote monitoring systems (Carelinkâ, Latitudeâ, Merlinâ, Biotronikâ)
Assists with management and maintenance of the remote monitoring program (Carelinkâ, Latitudeâ, Merlinâ, Biotronikâ).
Responsibilities include:
- Triaging reports on a daily basis
- Patient notification of follow-up
- Assists patients with transmissions over the phone
- Troubleshoot issues with the remote monitoring systems
- Assists with devices advisories/recalls
- Seeks assistance from device industry representatives as needed.
- Provides assistance in scheduling and other administrative duties related to the device center
- Assists with ‘off schedule’ or PRN in-person device interrogations in device clinic
- Interrogate, interpret, and program a wide range of cardiac devices with minimal provider supervision.
- When performing in-person interrogations, the device technician is responsible activities associated with rooming a patient. These may include but are not limited to: Collection of patients from waiting area, Vital Signs, 12-lead electrocardiogram, assisting in check-out process.
- Troubleshoot cardiac device issues and take immediate steps toward resolution
- Collaborate with physician/nurse practitioner regarding device status and accurately document device analysis for review.
- Educate patients on all aspects of their device including remote monitoring and follow-up protocol.
- Serve as resource to providers and other employees regarding device patients and services.
- Keep equipment in good working condition and notify appropriate personnel of problem areas or safety issues.
- Participate in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations.
- Accountable for following the guidelines for attendance, punctuality and overall dependability.
Performs other duties as assigned.
