      Purpose of Job:

      The CARDS Officer is responsible for timely and accurate entry of credit data into CARDS* presentations, production of draft and final release CARDS presentations for ultimate release into the CARDS data base by CARDS management.

      * CARDS (Credit Administration Reporting and Documentation System) is the primary system used to capture authorized credit exposure for Basel II capital computations and reporting to Scotiabank’s executive management, Board of Directors, shareholders and statutory/regulatory agencies worldwide.

      Major Accountabilities:

      • Accurately establish and update Customer records (with appropriate borrower classifications, BIS, CAPAD, SIC and Business Risk codes, Statutory and Business Connections) linking the borrower to an authorized risk rating template if available and refreshing links upon subsequent review of the Borrower’s risk rating by the Credit Unit in the Corporate, Commercial and International CARDS databases
      • Provide complete and accurate draft CARDS Presentations for release within GRM-Credit Risk Administration capturing often complex lending arrangements with various combinations of multiple borrowers, currencies, availment types and booking points. Linking facilities to established Guarantor records and risk rating models where appropriate
      • Safeguard the integrity of the credit database by ensuring consistent and accurate input for each Customer record established/updated and each CARDS Presentation
      • Special projects which may include the transfer of accounts between CARDS databases, providing assistance during OSFI / shareholders auditors examinations, obtaining DBRS rating sheets from the internet, assisting with preparation of sundry reports “on request” basis within tight timeframes
      • Assist with maintenance of Fronting Exposures (L/C, Swing-Line, Loan) in the GRMES system

      Education/Work Experience/Designations:

      • Bilingual in Spanish and English is required
      • Community College Diploma, BComm Degree or equivalent work experience in credit, loan accounting / operations departments or branches of financial institutions including brokerage houses, trust, mortgage or leasing companies
      • Sound knowledge of the CARDS system; solid knowledge of lending and capital adequacy terminology including facility types, fronting arrangements (L/C, Loan and Swing-line) pricing, term, security, committed/uncommitted, internal & external rating equivalents, loan covenants and treasury products
      • Proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet applications of standard software packages - Microsoft Office
      • Working knowledge of database file structure, North / South American and European company structures / legal entities, GRMES and PLDC module (in CARDS) an asset
      • Working knowledge of internal Bank lending policies, practices and procedures
