      The UVA Career Center engages and supports students in the discovery and pursuit of meaningful lives. Our main office is located in Bryant Hall at Scott Stadium, Room 236 (2nd floor). We are on the UTS bus route and have short-term metered parking for visitors.       Employment Start/End Dates: Fall 2024 with possibility of renewal for Fall 2025/Spring 2026.

      Hourly Pay: $14.00

      Qualifications:

      • Be eligible for undergraduate student employment
      • Must be able to work an average of 8-10 hours per week, to include both daytime and evening hours.
      • General knowledge of event planning, ability to provide exceptional customer service, basic understanding of technology, ability to keep accurate account of event activities.
      • Enthusiasm for event planning and helping students.
      • Commitment to the mission of the UVA Career Center.
      • Excellent customer service skills and professional work habits
      • Ability to communicate and partner with a diverse group of stakeholders
      • Ability to work independently and take initiative
      • Excellent oral and written communication skills
      • Dependable and responsible
      • Organized and able to multi-task
      • Ability to act as a team member

      Job Purpose:

      This position provides an excellent opportunity to develop organization and management skills, and it is ideally suited for a student who is interested in learning about career development and making connections with potential employers. This position will provide experience in event planning and problem-solving as related projects become available within the UVA Career Center.

      Responsibilities:

      The Event Assistant will be asked to perform the following responsibilities:

      • Technology set-up for events and career fairs (check-in kiosks, and other A/V needs)
      • Assisting with event set-up and breakdown
      • Assisting with on-site check-in and event support
      • Preparing materials in advance of career fairs and events
      • Assist with event assessment
      • Assist with marketing efforts such as putting out signs, posting flyers, etc.
      • Provide research support for event logistics
      • Other duties as assigned related to career events

      PHYSICAL DEMANDS

      This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
