      $6,747.50 - $9,701.42 CAD Monthly

The midpoint of the range is approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum and represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.

      The Hari B. Varshney Business Career Centre (BCC) supports business students’ personal and professional development journey to responsible leadership through customized services focused on self-exploration, career development and access to business communities. Our team supports approximately 5,000 students across undergraduate and graduate programs.

      The Career Programming Strategist supports UBC Sauder students to become career-ready graduates. The Career Programming Strategist is responsible for programming initiatives, including designing, coordinating, and delivering career development programs, both in the classroom and online. This role involves collaborating with partners and applying best practices in learning to boost student engagement and career readiness.

      The Career Programming Strategist delivers a high-quality level of service to a high-achieving student population with diverse needs, overseeing the full cycle of students’ career journeys at UBC Sauder in partnership with the BCC’s Careers’ teams.

      The Career Programming Strategist achieves results in three key areas of responsibility, aligning with career development principles and employing best practices to deliver, assess, and evaluate programs and services to students:

      1. Personal and professional development.

      2. Access to business community.

      3. Service Excellence.


      Organizational Status
      Reports to the Associate Director, Career Development Programming. Regularly plans, collaborates and leads cross-functional team projects with faculty, colleagues from across the BCC as well as UBC Sauder program offices, including Robert H. Lee Graduate School and Undergraduate Office. May supervise external consultants, support employees and students.

      Work Performed

      Personal and professional development

        • Leverages knowledge and expertise in the fields of instructional design and career development to design, deliver and evaluate all BCC-led career development programs (in person and online).

        • Identifies opportunities within career development programming for students to critically reflect on their learning, to connect it with other learning in their student experience (academic and co-curricular), and to translate it into career learning in relation to the BCC Career Development model.

        • Develops BCC-wide programming tools and templates including lesson plans, marking rubrics and course evaluations.

        • Manages the BCC’s Learning Management System (Canvas) and other related platforms, liaising with campus partners such as UBC Centre for Teaching and Learning Technology and UBC Sauder Learning Technology services to enhance the quality of all BCC-led online career development courses.

        • Manages the development and quality assurance of the BCC’s career content and resources, including Canvas content, and learning resources (such as Career Toolkits, Industry Guides).

        • Continuously evaluates and innovates the BCC's existing learning tools, resources, and platforms to ensure they are aligned with the Career Development Model and external trends in the world of work.

        • Develops new career materials, such as PDF resources, videos, or other interactive learning resources, in collaboration with BCC's Service Excellence Team.

        • Provides career coaching and advising for students, when required, on a variety of career and professional development topics and work search.

        • Provides facilitation and classroom support to select career development classes for students, in collaboration with the BCC’s Careers teams.

        • Manages the operations of career development programming including room bookings and faculty liaison.

        • Supports the marking of student assignments related to career development programming.

        Access to business community

        • Contributes to expanding students’ opportunities to engage with employers, alumni and community. When appropriate, invites and prepares alumni, employers and industry partners, as subject matter experts, to participate in career development programs.

        • Develops resources and tools which enable students to access, connect and network with the business community.

        • In collaboration with the BCC partners, manages relationships with the business community to facilitate student learning and development, focused on careers.

        Service excellence

        • Participates in the assessment and evaluation of career learning for students. Collects and records information and feedback, analyzes, documents and reports results, integrates improvements into programs.

        • Trains employees, student employees and volunteers, including peer leaders and coaches.

        • Contributes to strategic planning processes and the setting of goals and priorities for the work.

        • Influences multiple stakeholders to create and set direction, persuade action, and achieve consensus toward collective goals as related to career development programming.

        • Supports efforts to engage students, faculty, alumni, employers and other stakeholders in career programming initiatives.

        • Fosters an inclusive and respectful learning environment where all students have the opportunity to thrive professionally, academically, and personally.

        • Undertakes other related duties as assigned.


        Consequence of Error/Judgement
        Works with considerable autonomy and exercises considerable judgment in carrying out assignments and respectfully dealing with a diverse group of important stakeholders. Accountable for the effective execution of all matters related to students’ career services and the effectiveness of the services provided. Makes significant independent decisions and recommendations in areas of planning, organizing and scheduling of work. Establishes own operational procedures for student Career Services, monitors progress, and recommends program development changes in relation to curriculum needs and stakeholder feedback. Exercises significant level of judgment in dealings with the business community, faculty members and alumni.

        Supervision Received
        Reports to the Associate Director, Career Development Programming. Works autonomously under broad guidelines and under a high level of accountability.

        Supervision Given
        Trains and supervises support employees, student assistants, interns, consultants and/or volunteers. Trains new professional employees in the Hari B. Varshney Business Career Centre.

        Minimum Qualifications
        Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of three to four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

        Preferred Qualifications

        • Demonstrated competence in planning, implementing, and evaluating programs, workshops or events for students and/or professionals.

        • Experience using web-based platforms and instructional technology to teach and engage students.

        • Experience working with management to executive-level leadership in one or more of the areas of career coaching, recruitment, training and learning development, career services delivery.

        • Knowledge of analytics required (Learning Management System analytics, Google Analytics, or equivalent.

        • Experience of classroom facilitation or teaching to groups.

        • Knowledgeable about career trends in the changing world of work.

        • Experience in designing, developing and evaluating career-related programs or workshops is an asset Experience or qualifications in instructional design is an asset.

        • Hands-on knowledge and experience of Canvas or similar Learning Management Systems (LMS) is an asset.

        • Demonstrated expertise in leveraging innovative learning technology is an asset

        • Computer skills required. Must have experience with MS Office applications, including advanced Word and PowerPoint skills and intermediate Excel skills.

        • Excellent presentation, communication, public speaking, and organization skills.

        • Ability to work both independently and within multiple team environments.

        • Must accommodate flexible hours – for events and workshops on some evenings and weekends.

        • Ability to think strategically and exercise diplomacy, tact, and discretion.

        • Demonstrated ability to conduct respectful consultation and collaboration with stakeholders.

        • Graduate degree is an asset.
