Job Description

- Introduce new and continuing students to Career Development and guiding them through the general employment process.
- Maintain regular and consistent contact with students.
- Provide career opportunity counseling for students.
- Establish new employer partnerships for graduate placement
- Conduct, maintain and update student records.
- Coach students individually and in groups on job creative search skills, resume writing, interviewing techniques, etc.
- Outreach to alumni daily to maintain contact with graduates seeking positions after graduation.
- Follow up with industry partners on behalf of students / alumni to get updates on interview / job offer status.Communicate job opportunities to students through flyers, email notifications, text messaging, and verbal alerts as needed.
- Maintain record in Student Information System of outreach with students / alumni.
- Educate prospective students or visitors about the services available and provided in the department.
- Assist with executing campus events; Career Fair, Job Fair, employer visits, class presentations, graduation and other campus events as needed.
- Work closely with pending graduates to ensure the completion of exit requirements are met.
- Perform routine office support duties.
- Work with Education to support students in testing for their Certifications and continuing their education towards more advanced degrees.
- Assist the Dean of Students with G&E (Graduate and Employment) Tracking, Program Completion Tracking, and yearly accrediting reporting.
- Complete other duties as assigned by the Dean of Student Affairs / Career Services Manager.
- Assists other Career Services Advisor in meeting team goals
- Participate in Career Services Advisor events and projects
- Participate in Career Services Advisor team meetings to stay aware of activities and department goals
- Actively seek ways to aid other departments in achieving operating objectives not necessarily under direct control or accountability
- Leverage relationships with professionals in related career fields to invite appropriate guest speakers to Spartan events
- Promoting a positive image in department staff toward operating objectives established by Spartan College
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of communication with students, staff and employers in the student information system (SIS)
- Send Weekly Placement updates to campus leadership team
- Update alumni / student trackers with updated notes received by students / alumni / industry partners
- Audit alumni graduate files
- Work with employers to set-up direct placement and/or apprenticeships for current students
- Lead / Assist Career Service Advisors in meeting team goals
- Organize and promote job fairs
- Organize and promote Advisory Community meeting to adhere to accreditation standards
- Special projects as assigned
- Attend departmental and campus wide meetings
- Motivated by a desire to help people be successful and achieve their goals
- Personal track record of success in academics, coaching or counseling preferred as well as a successful track record of staff training and development
- Temperament to enjoy and succeed in a high growth company without a rigid work structure
- Excellent and polished presentation and communications skills, with ability to maintain open communications with other departments and business functions
- Ability to advise in conjunction with coaching as well as problem solving and provide effective feedback
- Be a collaborative, effective member of a team and to work with all types of people, to assume facilitator and lead role, and to affect timely submissions from other required
- Experience in helping individuals identify strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and potential trouble situations, and helping guide those individuals toward creating their own action plan for maximum success
- Ability to work in metrical, results oriented environment
- Effective, efficient, empathetic, energized, and engaging communicator
- Temperament to succeed in a performance-based environment in high growth company with peak volume periods
- Willingness to work weekends and/or early morning or evening hours as required
- High School Diploma or GED
- Associate’s and/or Bachelor’s degree preferred
- 2+ years of experience in coaching preferred
- Face to Face sales experience preferred

Summary
The Career Services Advisor is responsible for successfully preparing students to find secure, and retain employment, giving them the skills necessary to report this process throughout their careers. This position will work closely with the other department teams such as the Student Services, Education Department, Faculty, other campus and administration. Therefore, the person must have the written and verbal communications skills to constantly update other departments on the progress of students and alumni on an individual and collective basis, and the customer service skills to quickly and professionally resolve problems that could impede career progress.
