- Student Advising/Consultation: Provide career counseling to CMU-Africa students and alumni on career exploration, professional development, internship and job-search preparation, and post-graduation career planning needs. Use industry insights to provide individual and group career coaching.
- Program Development and Participation: Develop and implement relevant programming to include career fairs, workshops, and collaborations with the Academic and Professional Skills team and other partners to foster successful career development of students. Participates in relevant events sponsored by various university constituencies.
- Career Development Workshops/Events: Partner with the Academic and Professional Skills team to develop, coordinate, and facilitate training and skills development workshops to include resume preparation, job-search strategies, interview skills, and experiential learning preparation. Plan and implement annual mock interviews, alumni career panels, corporate presentations and on campus recruiting events and interviews.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Partner with the Director of External Relations and other colleagues to identify and cultivate relationships with strategic partners to expand internship and employment opportunities for the program.
- Serve as the Transition Lead for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars program.
- Resource Development: Coordinate resources in support of student career programs to meet accelerated recruiting timelines. Manage the internships and career services job portals to ensure effective student and employer engagement.
- Program evaluation: Conduct program evaluation and assessment including articulating goals, objectives, and outcomes; data collecting and benchmarking; and report writing.
- Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications and other external relations teams to facilitate communication with external and internal partners. Plan, implement and evaluate innovative programming as market trends change.
- A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in relevant field or equivalent relevant experience in a people-facing capacity preferred.
- Excellent oral/written communication skills required.
- Fluency in both spoken and written English required, French is a bonus.
- A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
- Deep commitment to enhancing educational opportunities and developing leadership capacity in Africa.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to connect effectively with individuals from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
- Proficient in synthesizing data to provide strategic insights and informed recommendations.
- Quick to adapt and thrive in dynamic and evolving environments, demonstrating resilience in the face of challenges.
- Self-starter with a proactive mindset, capable of developing creative solutions to academic advising and administrative challenges.
- Proven ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality in sensitive situations.
- Skilled at managing difficult situations with professionalism and maintaining focus during high-pressure scenarios.
- Meticulous attention to detail, ensuring accurate and organized reporting and record-keeping.
- Strong computer skills, particularly in the Microsoft Office suite, with a demonstrated ability to leverage technology for improved administrative efficiency.

In this role, you will provide essential services designed to assist students and alumni in shaping successful transitions from academia to professional life. This entails continuous support throughout a student's academic journey, offering guidance on resume building, interview preparation, and personal branding advising and support. This position reports to the Associate Director of Student Affairs and offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on students’ lives.

As a Career Services Officer, your main responsibility will be to support students and alumni in their career planning by providing personalized coaching and developing relevant programs and workshops. This position collaborates with both internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement a comprehensive employer development and outreach plan that engages recruiters from various sectors and industries.
