      A key part of this position is to serve as a core member of the Penn GSE Student Success team that coordinates services and programs for students in academic or personal difficulty including, provide support and referrals and assist with communications; directly and proactively support students experiencing challenges that can impact academics via crisis response, case management, and referrals; provide specialized academic advising, guidance on time away from and returns to school, and support regarding academic standing; and provide advice, clarification, and interpretation of the rules, regulations and procedures of GSE and other University divisions to students, parents, faculty members, and to external constituencies.

      Job Description

      • Serve as case manager for up 50-100 students each semester. Meet with each student to address academic challenges and personal difficulties. Build relationships and maintain contact over the course of the student’s time at Penn GSE. Provide resources and referrals. Liaise with partner offices and course instructors to obtain a holistic understanding of each student. Provide advice, clarification and interpretation of the rules, regulations and procedures of GSE and other Penn divisions to students, to parents, to faculty, and external constituencies. Provide guidance and feedback on difficult cases.

      • Provide outreach, support and data management for vulnerable students as a member of the Student Services team. Take the lead in support of documenting key interactions and establishing and maintaining appropriate records and data. Handle sensitive student information and provide notification of student concerns to faculty when appropriate.

      • Provide guidance and training to staff and faculty and handle inquiries on how to handle sensitive student issues. Participate in the orientations and other program meetings when appropriate.

      • Manage leave and return process for GSE. Offer guidance and support to students taking time away from Penn and aid in the readjustment of students returning from time away/LOAs. Provide clarity on the GSE rules and regulations that govern leaves and returns process. Manage and analyze data collection and documentation of leaves and returns in the University’s record system. Provide communication to students, families, and faculty around leaves and returns. Develop recommendations based for GSE systems based on the data.

      • Collaborate with the Student Success team on School-wide events and initiatives, such as graduation, orientation.

      • Perform additional duties as assigned.

      Qualifications

      ESSENTIAL:

      • A Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

      • Experience directly supporting students experiencing academic and person challenging, as well as handling sensitive information.

      • Excellent interpersonal and organizational kills

      • Understanding of and appreciation of graduate schools

      • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines

      • Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team and collaborate on initiatives

      • Ability to navigate highly sensitive matters

      PREFERRED:

      • A Master’s degree preferred.

      • Knowledge of Penn crisis system.

      $51,824.00 - $78,000.00 Annual Rate

      Salary offers are made based on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, as well as internal and market factors and grade profile.
