      ****Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University Hawai'i may apply for Casual Hire positions, which include administrative, professional, and technical (APT) or instructional-type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees arenoteligible for most benefits as provided to regular BOR and Civil Service employees such as paid leave and holidays. Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees, and up to 1 calendar year for part-time employees.

      Duties and Responsibilities

      • Support stakeholder engagement through meetings, workshops, charrettes, surveys, presentations or other engagement methods with internal and external groups of all ages.
      • Assist with project research and analysis including but not limited to gathering existing entitlement, policy, social, cultural, ecological, and economic information related to urban areas, campuses, or individual properties.
      • Contribute to written reports that summarize project progress and outcomes.
      • Assist with the preparation of production and presentation materials, including computer-aided design assets, and renderings to communicate design intent for meetings and reports.
      • Support, manage, and implement design, planning, and research efforts as required by project.
      • Precedent and analogous research as needed per project.
      • Conducting analysis and synthesis of research and design efforts to inform design guidelines and guiding principles that benefit university design and planning efforts.
      • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including design, research, product, engineering, branding, and marketing.
      • Other duties as assigned.


      Minimum Qualifications:

      1. Associates degree in liberal arts or architectural, engineering and computer aided design and one-year experience working on architectural design projects or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
      2. Design portfolio that demonstrates the ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
      3. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer, apply MS Office or Google Workspace software.
      4. Proficiency with basic two-dimensional drafting and three-dimensional modeling in Rhinoceros 3D and rendering and animation with Rhinoceros 3D compatible software.
      5. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals.


      Desirable qualifications:

      1. Experience in supporting design and education efforts with non-profits, agencies, and departments
      2. Experience with the local, social, cultural, political, economic, ecological, and regulatory context in Hawai'i.
      3. Strong interest in spatial design and community type project-based work
