      **** Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University of Hawai’i may apply for Casual Hire appointments, which include administrative, professional, and technical (APT) or instructional-type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits provided to regular Board of Regents or Civil Service employees. Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees, and up to 1 calendar year for part-time employees.

      Duties & Responsibilities:

      1. Assists with the coordination, implementation, and processing of various financial aid programs, such as but not limited to, Federal Pell Grant, internal and external grants and scholarships, student employment, Federal Work-Study, federal and private loans, default management, Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP), and Return to Title IV (R2T4).
      2. Applies knowledge to perform tasks such as, but not limited to, packaging and overaward review and adjustments, Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) corrections and updates, dependency overrides, and Satisfactory Academic Progress appeal decisions.
      3. Identifies and corrects student records to ensure course applicability to the program of study.
      4. Assists the Financial Aid Manager in meeting all federal, state, and institutional reporting and reconciling requirements related to the management and administration of Title IV, Higher Education Act (HEA), state, and institutional student financial aid programs.
      5. Follows best practices and adheres to the management and administration of Title IV, HEA, state, and institutional financial aid programs.
      6. Review regular financial aid reports and complete associated tasks in an accurate and timely manner, in collaboration with the UH system financial aid office and other faculty and staff.
      7. Collaborate with Hawaii CC Kauhale and UH system departments to support institutional and UH system student success initiatives.
      8. Provide outreach and customer services to prospective, new, and current students, and community and Kauhale members.
      9. Participate in national, regional, state, and/or local training opportunities related to student financial aid and financial literacy education, such as but not limited to, Federal Student Aid (FSA) conferences, National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA) courses and webinars, and Western Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (WASFAA) training events.
      10. Utilize training resources to enhance knowledge and remain compliant with ever-changing financial aid laws, rules, and regulations.
      11. Provide comprehensive support for student success at Hawaii Community College.
      12. Duties may involve evening and weekend hours at on-campus and off-campus locations.
      13. Other duties as assigned.

      Minimum Qualifications:

      1. Possession of a baccalaureate degree; or equivalent education, training, and/or experience.
      2. Ability to understand federal and state laws, rules, regulations, theories, and systems associated with the administration of Title IV, HEA, state and institutional financial aid, or financial literacy education programs.
      3. Demonstrated ability to resolve problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic in an effective and timely manner.
      4. Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally, and by preparation of reports and other materials.
      5. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective and collegial working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders, team members, and individuals.
      6. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
      7. Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated

      Desirable Qualifications:

      1. Experience working with community college students.
      2. Experience in financial aid, counseling, admissions, student support services or professional experience in higher education.
      3. Training or experience in conflict management.
      4. Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service across a variety of media and modalities.
      5. Demonstrated commitment and/or experience promoting equity in a diverse workforce/academic environment.
      6. Completed financial aid training, including but not limited to, FSA and NASFAA training conferences, courses, and webinars, and NASFAA credentials and certificates.
