      ****Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University of Hawai'i may apply for Casual Hire positions, which include administrative, professional, and technical (APT) or instructional-type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular BOR and Civil Service employees (i.e. paid holidays/leave). Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees, and up to 1 calendar year for part-time employees.

      Position Description:
      Under the general direction of the Principal Investigators, the HWST 222 Intro to Fiber Arts: Hana Noeau Maawe Instructor will provide the following:

      1. Teach HWST 222 Intro to Fiber Arts: Hana Noeau Maawe to Native Hawaiian students in the NHSS sheltered summer institute program.
      2. Incorporate traditional Hawaiian knowledge and texts into the curriculum.
      3. Other related tasks and/or duties as assigned

      Minimum Qualifications:
      1. Bachelors degree in Hawaiian Studies, Language, Education, or closely related field Teaching experience in college level courses
      2. Experience in the field of Native Hawaiian or indigenous education and/or Hawaiian Studies Demonstrated ability to present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing and
      3. verbally

      Desired Qualifications:
      1. Masters Degree in Education or closely related field
      2. Evidence of ability to teach effectively
      3. Ability to teach traditional Hawaiian frameworks of Hawaiian fiber arts while teaching toward the learning outcomes of HWST 222at UH Manoa
      4. Familiarity with a range of perspectives and experiences of Native Hawaiian students
      5. Familiarity with institutional barriers for Native Hawaiian students in higher education and best practices for Native Hawaiian student success
