      *** Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University of Hawai'i may apply for Casual Hire positions, which include administrative, professional, and technical (APT) or instructional-type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular Board of Regents (BOR) and Civil Service employees (i.e. paid holidays/leave). Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees, and up to 1 calendar year for part-time employees.

      Salary: $30.42 /hour

      Full time/Part time: Full-time, no more than 40 hours/week

      Temporary/Permanent: Temporary

      Other Conditions: Casual Hire temporary appointment is expected to begin June 2024 or soon thereafter. Not to exceed 89 days.

      Duties:

      1. Provide direct mental health counseling services to individual students, couples, and groups regarding a wide range of personal and academic concerns. These services include intake, assessment, case management, treatment, and crisis intervention, and may require after hours consultation as needed. Students eligible for services may include those enrolled in secondary schools and participating in summer programs.
      2. Collaborate to develop, implement, and evaluate effective educational programs and outreach activities on the prevention and treatment of psychological concerns such as sexual assault, suicide prevention, and alcohol/substance abuse.
      3. Provide consultation and professional development for faculty, administration, and staff regarding interpreting and advocating for addressing the psychological and developmental needs of students.
      4. Provide services in an ethically responsible way, consistent with professional guidelines and university policies and procedures.
      5. Engage in professional development activities on an ongoing basis.
      6. Contribute professional expertise and service to the university and the community.
      7. Seek extramural funding with internal and external agencies to support and advance the goals of Counseling Services.
      8. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Associate Director for Counseling Services.

      Minimum Qualifications:

      • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, counseling psychology, clinical psychology or a related field with an emphasis in mental health or clinical counseling.
      • One (1) year of work experience, including practicum/internship and transferable experiences to counseling.
      • Experience conducting clinical interviews, making diagnostic assessments based on DSM-V, and formulating treatment plans for individuals with a broad spectrum of psychological problems.
      • Experience providing counseling to diverse populations and a commitment to actively engage in practice with diverse populations.
      • Ability to travel to local and national meetings and conferences.
      • Computer skills relevant to counseling documentation and presentations.
      • Available to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
      • Licensed or eligible for licensure as a mental health provider in the State of Hawaii within two years of appointment.
