- Evaluate emissions reduction technologies, products, and processes that integrate with advanced engine designs incorporating conventional or renewable/green fuels.
- Perform bench test equipment design, operation, maintenance, and capability/capacity upgrades.
- Develop, calibrate, and validate predictive catalyst component and system through-life performance models
- Communicate technical information to team members, suppliers, and other units; support and advise other engineers, managers, marketing personnel, and suppliers.
- Provide support through all phases of product and process development while ensuring the process can be run safely, identifying, and addressing scale-up issues, and developing the final process step.
- Collaborate with team members and internal clients to perform needs analysis and initiate ideas for low carbon footprint systems solutions.
- Working knowledge of catalyst reaction and degradation mechanisms for state-of-the-art engine exhaust emissions-reducing technologies
- Ability to experimentally characterize and quantify catalyst performance kinetics and produce high-fidelity, predictive computer models meeting program requirements
- Capability of applying catalysis expertise to solve technical issues in areas outside of engine exhaust emissions reduction
- Document and communicate technical project information to team members, suppliers, and other business units clearly and succinctly
- Coach, support and advise peers, managers, other business units, and suppliers in a timely and objective manner
- Represent Caterpillar in the external technical community through active participation in technical meetings and conferences
- Ensure test plans and schedules are designed to produce relevant data addressing the root cause of an issue or question in an efficient manner
- Play an active or leading role in evaluating emissions reduction technology, product, and process solution alternatives that integrate with advanced engine designs incorporating conventional or renewable/green fuels.
- Ability to develop and implement standard hardware and procedures for improved experimental test accuracy and reproducibility across multiple test benches
- Capable of defining experimental test data and kinetic model accuracy requirements to meet or exceed client expectations

Job Summary:
This job involves developing fundamental understanding of catalytic systems performance through detailed laboratory experimentation and analysis as well as kinetic model development and validation. The Catalysis Engineer will design and perform complex laboratory bench tests and analysis work, develop, calibrate, and validate predictive performance models, and identify and resolve arising challenges throughout the lifecycle of Caterpillar products. We have a fabulous team working on cutting edge technologies to enable efficient, low carbon footprint diesel, natural gas, and renewable/green fueled engines and hybrid powertrain systems for Caterpillar.

Requires a Doctorate degree in an accredited Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering curriculum or a field specializing in chemical reaction engineering.

Summary Pay Range:
$95,640.00 - $143,520.00Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
