The CCUS Geologist will support our company's effort to lead the US and Region in CCUS by providing geo services to support Class VI and II project development, prospecting, and capacity resources assessments. This position will report to the Manager of Geology with a primary responsibility of supporting EQTs New Ventures CCUS efforts.
The CCUS Geologist's responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
· Subject Matter Expert on CCUS and related geology
· Prospecting new CO2 storage plays and recommending opportunities for appraisal programs.
· Support operational development with knowledge and expertise regarding Class II and VI geologic requirements for storage formations and confining zones.
· Steward geological, geophysical, and petrophysical data collection and analysis
· Support assessment of CO2 capacity assessment in legacy and new storage resources
· Class II Enhanced Recovery - Develop and maintain a regional geology model for CCUS resources, including the petrophysical and injectivity models for unconventional and conventional oil and gas reservoirs in Appalachian Basin which will enhance recovery and associated CO2 storage models.
· Class VI Saline Storage – Develop and maintain regional geology and petrophysical model for saline storage resources and update based on exploration efforts.
Required Experience and Skills:
· Undergraduate degree required; Degree(s) in Geology; master’s or higher level in related field preferred
· 10+ years’ experience in the following areas:
- Exploration for carbon storage and oil and gas resources
- Carbon storage resource assessment and regional modeling
- Coordinating complex CCUS projects in Class II and VI
Preferred Experience and Skills:
· Lead the geology section in CCUS team with a focus on the exploration and validation of prospective geologic resources
· Ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, scientists, and lawyers' business personnel in a matrixed organization
· Ability to assess geologic data and integrate it into a geologic model for carbon storage resources across formation types, both for enhanced recovery and storage
· Communication skills to discuss technical, scientific, regulatory, and financial information
· Establish and nurture relationships with key stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, geologic surveys, consultants, and across EQT business units (AP, Land, Ops, Civil)
· Ability to execute complex projects, develop models, direct multiple contracts, and plan long-term data and asset assessments
· Ability to set and manage project goals, tasks, and budgets
· Experience with data compilation, QC, and exacting data from a structured environment (SQL)
· Knowledge of scripting languages (Python, R, etc.) for data manipulation and analysis
· Experience in communicating and analyzing geologic data with visualizations and insights
Remote work is being considered for this role, excluding the following states: Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Tennessee, Louisiana, New Jersey, and New York unless willing to relocate.
Selected incumbent will be placed into the position that best suits their abilities and experience level.
