      POSITION SUMMARY

      DEFINITION
      Under general supervision, performs a variety of tasks related to the sterilization, processing, distribution, and charging of medical supplies and technical equipment used for providing patient care; and performs other related duties as required.

      POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
      Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way would be:

      Education
      Graduation from high school, possession of a Certificate of Proficiency issued by the California State Board of Education, or attainment of a satisfactory score on a G.E.D. examination preferred.

      Experience
      None to six months experience or some job-related formal training.

      KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES
      Knowledge of:
      Hospital established policies quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control policies and procedures.
      The more common medical equipment and instruments used in a hospital setting.

      Ability to:
      Learn aseptic and sterile techniques.
      Learn the terminology of parts and supplies associated with area of assignment.
      Understand and follow oral and written directions
      Learn quickly the specific operations of a medical treatment unit.
      Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and fellow employees.
      Work effectively under stress and in emergency situations
      Keep simple records.
