The Certified Peer Support Specialist will support recovery and participation by sharing experience with and educating about recovery and rehabilitation, coordinating with internal and external resources, and walking with the person on the path of recovery and community participation, independence, and productivity. The Certified Peer Support Specialist, as part of the Tumaini Center Homeless Recovery Services team and in collaboration with the person served, will provide peer coaching while being responsible for providing assessment, case plan development, housing placement and linkage to services. This position is a community-based position, which involves intensive outreach services. The Certified Peer Support Specialist provides services to an assigned caseload under the supervision of the Outreach Supervisor. REQUIREMENTS : High School Diploma or GED. A Peer Support Specialist must have experience using services in community mental health (CMH) for a minimum of one year. Experience with recovery from the impact of a mental illness, addiction, and/or homelessness preferred. At least 6 months experience in the provision of peer support, self-help, or mental health/behavioral health services. Certified as a Peer Support Specialist. Basic computer skills (email, internet use, knowledge of Microsoft Word). Ability to effectively communicate and engage people in the community/consumers. Valid Michigan driver’s license and proof of auto insurance.
