      Qualifications:

      Active PA School Nurse Certification is required.

      Active PA RN or LPN license is preferred.

      Bachelor's and/or Master's in Nursing is required

      Background/experience preferred in pediatric nursing, school nursing, community health nursing, critical care nursing medical-surgical nursing and/or emergency room nursing preferred.

      Possess effective interpersonal skills with the ability to interface with teachers, administrators, parents, students, support staff, co-workers and outside professional contacts. Strength areas should include: effective communication and writing skills, planning and human relation skills to work on varied teams.

      Description:

      The School District of Springfield Township is seeking candidates who possess excellent interpersonal skills, the desire to work with energetic students, and the ability to relate well within the school community. SDST is committed to diversity in our workplace and welcomes the opportunity to consider all candidates. This position will be a Certified School Nurse for grades 9-12 at our High School.

      The Certified School Nurse is responsible for coordinating, collaborating, planning for, and, in most cases, providing direct services to ensure that the school district’s health program is carried out in both the school building and within private/parochial schools within the district boundaries.

      Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

      • Collaboration with school administrators and the nursing team in planning and organizing the school health program.
      • Maintain electronic health records and information related to health issues, including developing and maintaining emergency care plans and health care plans and implementing care when indicated.
      • Providing direct services to students, using the nursing process to provide care to the school community in accordance with current medical practice and nursing standards, relevant statutes, and regulations.
      • Performs and/or oversees mandated screenings and completes referrals and follow-up where applicable and manages and controls acute and chronic disease.
      • Provides first aid for illness or injury to students and documents nursing assessment, diagnosis and treatment.
      • Reviews and monitors student immunization status. Makes appropriate referrals to up-date immunizations when indicated.
      • Administers medications and performs procedures according to physician orders and school district policies and procedures. Ensures physician orders for individual student medications and/or treatments comply with requirements for administration.
      • Promotes good safety practices, both within and outside of school buildings. May serve as a member of Safe School Committee(s).
      • Collaborates with agencies within and outside of the school community to ensure continuity of service and care of students, including working with private physicians and dentists to coordinate private medical and dental examinations with the school program.
      • Identifies high-risk children to needed services, including students presenting with signs of child abuse.
      • May actively participate in the Child Study Team; individual education program meetings for students with medical or developmental needs; Chapter 14 and 15 review and evaluation teams; and/or provide information to these teams as required.

      Terms of employment:

      Full-time position to be determined in accordance with the terms and conditions of the collective bargaining agreement. Position to begin August 25, 2025.
