- Sets up equipment independently
- Prepare sterile operating rooms for surgeries.
- Demonstrates a general knowledge of equipment and supplies.
- Ability to work in every clinical schedule (physician or testing) during times of coverage and overflow. Assists others as needed.
- Maintains sterile field to promote safety and infection control
- Participates and provides feedback in supply utilization, new equipment/product evaluations; identifying and recommending solutions for cost containment and waste reduction.
- Informs Specialty Service Leader when items need to be added or deleted to the preference card
- Work well with surgeons, surgical assistant, nurses and general surgical team.
- Program Graduate, Surgical Technology (Required)
- Less than 1 year Experience surgical tech (Required)
- Certified Surgical Technologist - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) Upon Hire(Required) and
- CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) (Required) and
- Certified Surgical Tech (CST) - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) Upon Hire(Required) or
- Tech in Surgery - National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) Upon Hire(Required)

Assists with the coordination of nursing care of the patient in the operating room and functions as a team member of the surgical team. Responsible for the preparation and maintenance of equipment, instrumentation and supplies on the sterile field. Requires utilization of simple to complex equipment. Requires the cleaning and replenishment of equipment and supplies in order to maintain quality patient care. Participates in quality patient assurance, in-service and customer service programs. Responsible for the handling and management of specimens and surgical counts. Assumes the role of expert for specific surgical service, is responsible for monitoring the surgical schedule for equipment and supply needs, prepares for daily case readiness, supports the Specialty Nurse with the surgeon preference cards, and for identifying, communicating, and educating service changes. Surgical privileges are established by the surgery department and medical staff and approved by the governing body.
