      Job summary

      Karis Neighbour Scheme (KNS) is looking to appoint a Chaplain for Wellbeing as part of our Listening and Guidance service.

      Main duties of the job

      The Listening and Guidance service sits within the Talking Therapies provided by the NHS. This professional listening support service is offered within Primary Care settings (GP surgeries and telephone), based on an approach to health and wellbeing which addresses the emotional, psychosocial and spiritual needs of patients.

      The service is available for all patients irrespective of their faith, beliefs or cultural background.

      Listening and Guidance has been found to be particularly effective for patients experiencing loss or change in their lives, e.g. in relationships, work, health, bereavement, confidence, purpose, lifestyle, self-efficacy, relocation, crisis, trauma or mental health.

      The role involves delivering personalised care through listening sessions, addressing patients emotional, pastoral and spiritual needs.

      Training and supervision will be provided.

      About us

      Karis Neighbour Scheme is a small and responsive charity, working with volunteers to run valued community projects in the Edgbaston and Ladywood areas of Birmingham.

      The projects aim to provide emotional, practical, befriending and advocacy support in a variety of different ways. Karis Neighbour Scheme delivers a professional Listening and Guidance service, partly commissioned by the NHS.

      Job Summary

      This role is funded by Living Well UK for one year. We will look at other opportunities to obtain ongoing funding for the role beyond this initial year.

      Listening and Guidance is part of Karis Neighbour Scheme, a charity working in Ladywood and Edgbaston.

      Key Duties and Responsibilities

      1. To provide a listening service for patients referred by primary care health practitioners and wellbeing services and to also be prepared to offer it to staff if requested.
      2. To seek out and use appropriate resources and signposting to support the wellbeing and holistic care of patients and staff.
      3. To build working relationships and to promote the service to the GPs and other staff in the practices in the Edgbaston area in order that they understand the Listening service that we provide, and how to make referrals.

      4. To be willing to promote the service among local stakeholder groups to raise the profile and uptake of Listening and Guidance.

      5. To ensure that record keeping is up to date and that the assessment and data entry requirements of the service are met. To support the team with the collation and analysis of service data if requested.

      6. To receive and respond to referrals.

      7. To work in partnership with other organisations, supporting a joined-up approach to holistic care and signposting.

      8. To be willing to support the Listening and Guidance Management Team with any new developments of the service, including possible use of volunteers trained in Listening skills.

      9. To be willing to undertake training as required and to comply with meeting the standards of the UK Board of Healthcare Chaplains Code, and to be accredited by the Association of Chaplaincy in General Practice.

      10. To follow good practice, adhering to the code of Conduct developed by the UKBHC and to practice in accordance with the Capabilities and Competencies described by this Board.

      11. To comply with the KNS policies and procedures.

      12. To undertake training on safeguarding and to be aware of the KNS safeguarding policies. To highlight any concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.

      13. To undertake any other duties consistent with the purpose and nature of the post.
