  The chaplain facilitates spiritual care of residents, residents’ families, and team members through ministries of pastoral care, worship, and programming

  EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS

  1. Bachelor’s degree in ministry, counseling, theology, or related field required.
  2. Non-ordained minister with theological education, training, or certification in Christian education and pastoral services preferred.
  3. 0-2 years of experience.

  Job Duties

  1. Visits and counsels those in spiritual need and comforts bereaved with a priority on crisis situations, including residents in all levels of care and hospitals, their families and team members.
  2. Conducts, or arranges for others to conduct, weekly community worship services in Health Services.
  3. Plans, preaches, and provides worship leadership as part of a regular rotation for Sunday morning worship services at the community and other special services throughout the year.
  4. Maintains a regular call rotation with other staff chaplains and interns.
  5. Attends funeral services and offers support and leadership for in-house memorial services.
  6. Administers and makes available to residents’ religious rites or ordinances associated with beliefs and practices of religious faith or denomination.
  7. Conducts, organizes, and develops activities and events in coordination with various community programs.
  8. Serves as an integral part of the interdisciplinary team at the community.
  9. All other duties as assigned.

  Qualifications

  1. Provide pastoral services to residents.
  2. Knowledge of theology, gerontology, psychology, Christian education, and human development.
  3. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  4. Ability to keep confidences.The ability to be empathetic and communicate well with residents and family members as well as the community team members.
  5. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  1. May include frequent lifting up to 25 lbs., extensive walking, bending, stooping, and standing.
  2. Universal staffing, holiday, inclement weather, and a flexible work schedule are required.
  3. Exposure to the sights, sounds and smells of a typical heath care environment including interaction with people coping with dementia.
