      Job Description

      Parker LORD is looking for a Chemical Engineer II located at the Indianapolis manufacturing facility. This position will be responsible to i ndustrialize new and existing products, processes and materials into production which are safe, optimized for process capabilities, cost, cycle time, minimize rework and is of consistent high quality. Projects will be global in nature, aiding not only the Indianapolis Facility, but also other manufacturing sites for Parker Lord in Europe and Asia. This role conducts process development to produce new knowledge, processes, and products under general direction. Conceives, organizes, promotes, and executes ideas and plans to increase t he organization's chemical process expertise to meet business objectives. Experience with chemicals, polymeric materials, process engineering, and a manufacturing environment are highly preferred.

      • Technical lead on scaling up new products from early production to full, stable production. Successful projects would be products being manufactured safely, with high quality, reliably, efficiently and meets the requirements of the production and quality teams.
      • Leading the transfer of new and existing products from one facility to the Indianapolis facility or from their site to any one of our global manufacturing sites. They will need to work cross-functionally to set and meet the expectations for a product to be qualified and manufactured safely and with high quality.
      • Identify and quantify areas for continuous improvement/risk mitigation, communicate the benefits/support needed to complete and execute.
      • Routine and non-routine lab a nd plant assignments of moderate to high complexity and variety; frequently make decisions independently.
      • Determine appropriate technical approach, follow accepted procedures, develop new procedures and communicate conclusions/recommendations in an effective manner.
      • Oversee specific equipment and supplies, involved in the specification and purchase of new equipment.
      • Engage often with team members in business, manufacturing, global regions, and technology.
      • Conduct training for staff as needed.
      • Support manufacturing expansion by being the technical lead for transferring of products from one manufacturing facility to the other.
      • Support Quality teams by investigating root causes, corrective actions, and test methods to address critical performance characteristics of chemical materials.
      • Support Supply Chain efforts by investigating the impact of key raw materials, offsets, and intermediates on chemical products.
      • May require travel up to 10% within the US, with infrequent but possible international trips to production facilities.

      Required

      • BS Chemical Engineering
      • 2+ years of experience in a process development and/or production environment. Must demonstrate strong Chemical Engineering skills and practices
      • Strong safety, quality, and ethics awareness with adherence to company policies
      • Experience in a manufacturing environment
      • Knowledge of polymer materials, adhesives, and/or coatings
      • Strong collaboration skills and ability to participate effectively in cross-functional and global project teams
      • Excellent written and oral communication skills
      • Proficient in statistical methods and experimental design
      • Experience with various mixing and process technologies included but not limited to batch chemical mixers, QC test methods, and analytical equipment
      • Experience with optimizing and troubleshooting control systems/process instrumentation
      • Proficient with software packages such as JMP/Minitab, Excel, Word, and SAP

      Preferred

      • MS Chemical Engineering
      • 5+ years of relevant experience in a chemical research and/or plant environment.
      • A record of process design/development and problem solving skills of chemical processes through the use of improvement methodologies such as Design of Experiments and Six Sigma.
      • Knowledge of various dispersion equipment of a batch or continuous nature.
      • Experience in the manufacture of structural or electronic adhesives and/or paint/coating industry is helpful.
