      Grade 3, Salary Range £22,214 - £24,248 per annum

      College – Science and Engineering. School – Chemistry.

      Contract type – Full time/open ended

      Hours/week - 35

      We are looking for a diligent and committed practical hands on technician to help in our busy and dynamic teaching laboratories. The School of Chemistry teaches practical chemistry to just under a thousand undergraduates per year. Covering the disciplines of; physical, organic and inorganic chemistry our team of Technicians help prep and run our busy schedule of practicals, where classes can hold just over one hundred students per session.

      The Opportunity:

      If successful you would join a team of dedicated technicians charged with helping to deliver practical teaching sessions to any and all University of Edinburgh Undergraduate students required to study aspects of Chemistry. Practical sessions run Monday to Friday and form the core of hands on learning for our students. This role is a chance for an individual with an interest in Chemistry to become part of our friendly and welcoming team and to grow, learn and develop within it, whilst supporting a world renown School of Chemistry and the University’s wider population of students, meeting, teaching and helping a truly multinational cohort of students.

      Your skills and attributes for success:

      • A conscientious, focussed approach to your duties, with excellent attention to detail.
      • An interest in Chemistry and practical science/practical teaching. Preferably with a Higher or Nat 5 Chemistry qualification.
      • A eagerness to learn and an understanding of the importance of H&S at work. Especially in a laboratory environment.
      • Ability to communicate well ensuring effective engagement with students.
      • Experience of laboratory settings (preferably hands on) and ability to follow instructions accurately.
