      British American Tobacco UK has an exciting opportunity for a CHEMOMETRICS TECHNOLOGIST in Southampton

      The primary role is working to support the Applied Chemometrics CoE Laboratory in accordance with Business demands.

      • As a Chemometrics Technologist, you will be responsible by the technical supervision on chromatographic equipment operation, chemometrics methodologies, analyses, results and data collection.

      Your key responsibilities will include:

      • Complete Applied Chemometrics capabilities and methodologies to support projects with chemical and sensory-like information within the appropriate lead-times and costs as defined.
      • Responsible to complete chromatographic analyses, generating advanced chemical data for chemometrics application ensuring the quality and robustness of methodologies and capabilities.
      • Ensure the laboratory operation and the quality of the analysis in compliance with the methodologies and standards.
      • Provide technical advisory in chemistry, chromatography and chemometrics to enhance the quality and reliability of analyses, ensuring robust results.
      • Ensure chemical lab infrastructure compliance with BAT standards as well as operational keeping the maintenances and quality of the analysis.

      What are we looking for?

      • Relevant experience in analytical chemistry laboratories ideally with experience in LC-MS.
      • Relevant science background equivalent to a degree level qualification with good understanding of the principles of chromatographic techniques (LC and GC).
      • Proactive and curious attitude to build upon current approaches, taking scientific findings into account and understanding potential impacts for the business.
      • Apply appropriate solutions or approaches to identify and resolve problems based on an understanding and experience and proactively develop new working procedures or methods as needed to solve technical challenges.
      • Excellent analytics and problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
      • Willingness to stay updated with the latest developments and trends in Analytical Science and related technologies through self-learning, training programs, or participation in conferences and workshops.
      • Good communication, organisational, and planning skills, and ability work both as a team member and independently.
      • Demonstrable a positive attitude along with a drive to succeed and flexibility in adapting to new tasks and changing priorities.
      • Degree, master’s degree, PhD or equivalent in Chemistry or Pharmaceutical Sciences or Chemical Engineering or Biochemistry or similar field. Must have experience in analytical chemistry comprising LC-MS.
      • Proficient computing skills to facilitate use of in-house database and skilled user of Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
