      TITLE: Chicago Campus Torch Leader

      COMPENSATION: $500.00/month Stipend (June - August)
      Position Summary
      Dominican University’s Chicago Campus is seeking enthusiastic, dependable, and service-oriented students to serve as Torch Leaders for our summer Student Orientation, Advising, and Registration (SOAR) and Bridge programs. Torch Leaders play a vital role in supporting the transition of new students by facilitating orientation activities, promoting engagement, and helping students feel welcomed, informed, and connected to the Dominican community. In this role, Torch Leaders serve as mentors and guides, helping new students navigate their first experiences at the university while modeling positive and inclusive campus values.
      In addition to orientation responsibilities, Torch Leaders help maintain the operations and organization of La Casa and the Resource Center, support summer residents, and assist with the setup and coordination of campus events. Torch Leaders will also provide logistical and administrative support across campus offices to ensure the successful execution of summer programming. This position offers the opportunity to build leadership skills, contribute meaningfully to student success, and work collaboratively with staff and peers in a dynamic environment.
      Ideal candidates are current Dominican University students in good academic standing who demonstrate strong interpersonal communication, reliability, and a desire to be actively involved in the campus community.
      Job Components & Important Dates
      • Dates of employment: June 2, 2025 - August 22, 2025
      • Participate fully in training and attend weekly staff meetings, working a minimum of 20 hours/week
        • Tentative dates of training: June 2 - June 6
          • Tentative training times from 9:00am-2:00pm
          • This is the only period during the entire summer Torch Leaders are expected to work full days, Monday-Friday
        • Flexible with advance notice
      • Outside employment and opportunities are not discouraged but should not interfere with Torch Leader responsibilities
      • Be punctual and dependable in carrying out all responsibilities
      • Support the commitment to multiculturalism, as well as departmental and University mission/values
      • Support summer event operations by setting up and breaking down event spaces
      • Help maintain cleanliness, organization, and basic functionality of La Casa and Resource Center
      • Collaborate with Chicago Campus staff to ensure seamless event coordination
      • Perform administrative duties such as filing, scheduling, supply organization, and duties as assigned
      • Provide behind-the-scenes assistance to staff during on-campus events
      • Maintain and promote the University code of conduct and all University mission and values
      SOAR & Bridge Program Responsibilities
      • Lead a small group of new students - learning and facilitating group initiatives, activities, and discussions
      • Serve as a role model to new students and their families
      • Acquaint new students/family members with campus services, resources, policies, etc.
      • Possess a clear understanding of core curriculum and academic expectations
      • Explain academic, involvement, and general University opportunities and procedures
      • Provide support in all aspects and implementations of the SOAR and Bridge programs, including the completion of various administrative tasks
      Qualifications
      • Must be Dominican University Students registered for Fall 2025
      • Good academic and disciplinary standing with a minimum GPA of 2.0
      • Display strong interpersonal communication, customer service, and leadership skills, as well as a strong desire to further develop these skills
      • Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of Dominican University and the Division of Student Success and Engagement
      • Demonstrate time management skills, flexibility, and the ability to motivate themselves and others
      • Work well independently and within a group of diverse staff, and groups of new students, families, and guests
      • A willingness to learn about university resources, services, opportunities, policies, and staff personnel

      A background screening is required.
      Compensation
      • $500 stipend paid monthly (June-August) prorated
      • Room in residence hall
      • Placement subject to space as deemed available by Residence Life staff
      • Summer meal plan
