The Ferguson Florissant School District is accepting applications for Chief Academic Officer. This position will report directly to the Superintendent of Schools and is responsible for supervising and evaluating Curriculum Coordinators, Executive Directors, and Directors; which include Instructional Services, the Challenger Learning Center, Little Creek Nature Center, and Early Education. The Chief Academic Officer will assist in developing systematic approaches to improving student achievement based on testing and observation. The Chief Academic Officer will work with outside agencies to meet all students’ academic needs; and assists in implementing federal and state educational mandates. This position provides the system oversight, consistency, and vision for a majority of the activities related to teaching and learning processes, and facilitates implementation of the district’s strategic plan, mission and goals. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To provide the instructional and curricular leadership that creates, implements, maintains, and enhances excellence, scholarship, creativity, and achievement for all students. 1.This new leader will report directly to the superintendent and serve on the senior leadership team working alongside other senior cabinet members to develop and implement curriculum and instruction, policies and procedures related to PreK-12 academic areas to ensure alignment to both the new District Strategic Plan and the 6th edition of the Missouri School Improvement Plan while simultaneously including the collaborative work of the new anti-racist standards. The CAO will supervise the curriculum coordinators to ensure that all district teaching and learning materials and instruction aligns with the District Strategic Plan, Anti-Racist Standards for Social Justice, Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP), and the Missouri School Improvement Program, MSIP-6. Provide oversight in the development of short and long-range goals for the instructional services division. Provide the superintendent and the school board with regular updates using data (at least monthly) to show the impact of programs and initiatives to improve student academic success. Collaborate with the Assistant Superintendent of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to ensure that all members of the Ferguson-Florissant School District Community are served equitably and have agency over their own learning. Demonstrate and develop high academic and behavioral expectations, collaborative planning and program development, responsive management, and personal accountability within the department(s). Provide the highest quality of customer service to ALL stakeholders, especially our families. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in Education with administrative licenses; Doctorate degree or pursuit of with an emphasis on literacy is preferred. Previous teaching experience and progressively responsible experience in K-12 public school leadership and management including curriculum and standards and policy development, preferably in a diverse urban environment. Missouri DESE Administrator Certificate. Reciprocity as deemed by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Knowledge of the philosophies, principles, and practices of public school administration, supervision, and organization; state and federal curriculum standards/guidelines; current literature, trends, and developments in the fields of curriculum development, instructional design, assessment, and professional development. Thorough understanding of how to apply policies and procedures as stated in School Board policies and administrative manuals and handbooks in the school system. Thorough understanding of how to apply the laws, principles, policies and procedures related to instructional services. Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, professional development standards, and program implementation processes. Thorough knowledge of curriculum design and implementation for diverse populations and models of curriculum integration/differentiation for all subjects. Experience in developing and overseeing grants is preferred. Ability to develop, interpret, evaluate, clarify, and apply policies and procedures. Ability to develop and execute long term goals and objectives; make administrative decisions in accordance with applicable laws, ordinances, regulations and school system policies and procedures and anti-racist standards; organize workflow and coordinate activities; deliver oral presentations before large or small audiences; research data and compile narratives or reports from information gathered. Ability to exercise considerable tact and courtesy in frequent contact with all stakeholders and establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships as necessitated by work responsibilities. Excellent facilitator skills. Skill in leading, assisting, developing and supporting staff. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Serves as the District’s leader in curriculum and instruction. Responsible for strategic planning, budgeting and implementation of curriculum, instruction, and assessment PreK-12 to maintain systemic consistency of curriculum and instruction. Supervises, directs, coaches and evaluates Curriculum Coordinators, Instructional Services Directors and assumes responsibility for department results. Regularly conducts individual and group meetings with Coordinators, Principals, department heads, Research and Evaluation, and others. Develops and manages the budget for curriculum and instruction including, textbooks/instructional materials, and technology PreK-12. Develops and provides ongoing coordination of district plans for professional development in conjunction with Assistant Superintendent of Human Resource Services, Executive Director of Professional Development, the Curriculum Coordinators and principals, including developing a handbook of opportunities, schedules, providing resources and documents, pre-K-12. Also works with the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resource Services, Executive Director of Professional Learning and Leadership to develop professional opportunities for leadership development in an effort to enhance development of administrators. Coordinates with the professional development leaders on the District’s new teacher induction and mentoring programs. Develops/identifies assessment protocols and tools for all subjects. Analyzes, synthesizes and distributes information and data related to administration and retesting. Supports the principals and teaching staff in aligning daily/annual instruction to the District Strategic Plan, Comprehensive School Improvement Plan, Anti-Racist Standards for Social Justice, and Missouri School Improvement Program. Monitor the academic components of MSIP-6, evaluate performance and progress and make adjustments to ensure that the District earns all APR points for Math, ELA, Science, and Social Studies. Supervise and collaborate on CTE Expansion including expanding and developing pathways of study with A+/CTE coordinator. Supervises College and Career Readiness including the development and publication of the CCR handbook with A+/CTE coordinator. Facilitates and monitors dual enrollment, Innovation High, Internships, and P-Tech/Early College in collaboration with supervisor of secondary schools Supervise the planning and implementation of summer learning programs in collaboration with school supervisors and principals. Oversees and develops grants for the consistent implementation of curriculum and instruction district-wide. Facilitates communication and collaboration with the Executive Director of Communications, both internally and in the community, regarding the goals, programs, and initiatives related to curriculum and instruction, professional development, assessment, education reform, and program evaluation. Provides direction for the improvement of student achievement system-wide; develops, organizes and implements models of technical assistance for schools with lower student achievement. Conducts special projects as requested; makes presentations to the community, performs tasks assigned by the Superintendent. Assumes leadership role in the Superintendent’s Central Administration team. Assists with long-range strategic planning, developing system-wide plans, policies, and activities; performs various duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
